OPK testing- HELP

Hi all,
I may be overthinking this but this will be my 4th month TTC, I decided to buy the clearblue advanced OPK this month after trying the regular one 2 months ago , did this just to see if I actually ovulate and got a smiley around day 16 of my usual 28 day cycle. However I'm confused about things now as last months cycle was 32 days which is unusual, I have started testing using OPK on Tuesday and currently no flashing smiley and this is day 16, I were to have another 32 day cycle, but if usual 28 day cycle then its technically my last fertile day according to Ovia app. I'm just a little worried and wonder if you have any advice as to whether I should keep trying with the OPKs or forget it this month as may have missed it, no idea if my cycle will go back to normal 28 day or will be longer so no idea as to whether to track on ovia for a 28 day cycle or a 32 day one!! so sorry for the rant.

Just make sure you're having sex anyway.

I use clearblue advance but my cycles vary between 32 days and 40. My ovulation is very variable. Sometimes I've started testing too late and had no fertile days show up but they probably would have if I'd tested earlier. Other cycle had fertile days for 12 days before the peak!

No advice re the Clear Blue as I have only ever used internet cheapies but I would keep testing - if you have a longer cycle ovulation will be later. The length of time between ovulation & AF is usually the same, it will be your ovulation date that changes making your cycle longer. If your cycle were to be 4 days longer than usual, ovulation would also be 4 days later than usual, so keep testing.

Hi,
ye most definitely still having sex and have been regularly prior to starting the OPKs so fingers crossed if I have started too late , we have had it enough anyway.
Will keep testing as well as wouldn't want to miss it if there is still a chance.
Thanks a lot for your response.
Have you had any luck TTC yet with your varied ovulation?

I am trying not to worry and just get my head around my cycles properly.

Hi @nat1989

Great news you got your positive OPK, I love seeing that little smiley face!! This is what I do..

CD10 I start testing using the cheap OPK, I test twice a day (2nd wee of the day about 12pm and around 9pm at night) just so I don's miss it.
Then when I get a strong line I use the Clearblue ones to double check, If I don't get a smiley face I then use the clearblue ones for a couple of days to see.

This way you are not using all of the clearblue ones in a month as it can get quite expensive. I got my clearblue ones from Groupon, £20 for 20.

Good luck this is your month xxxxx

I used the cheap internet ones for both my pregnancies as you can afford to buy loads & test regularly. Have sex every couple of days regardless but I used to test twice a day from about day 8 & carry on until I got a positive no matter what day of my cycle it was. I wasn’t obsessive about it, just tested & if it was negative I didn’t stress & tried again later. Glad you got the smiley face this month, fingers crossed for good news!

Morning guys,
thanks for your messages and tips on OPK testing,

The clearblue ones certainly are expensive that's for sure, will have a look on group on for next batch if no luck this month.

Everything is crossed, but just trying not to stress and take everything as I comes.

Hi All,
Just another update, so got my flashing smiley on my OPA on Friday and I'm still getting the flashing smiley as of this morning.
I'm now a little worried as my last cycle (which I thought was 32 days) was 33 days and I'm worried that my luteal phase is going to be too short if I have another 33 day cycle. it was my first month of a 33 days cycle so have no idea how my current one will turn out.
I am trying not to worry and just keep testing, had some twinges on either side of my abdomen this morning also, could it be that my LH hormone is just too low to detect but could be ovulating?
Mind is racing which I don't think will help anything.
