Travel to a Zika virus location, what would you do?

So frustrating. Over Christmas I got pregnant with our first, unfortunately it was PUL and the doctors recommended methotrexate so that's a three month wait before we can try to conceive again. We were/still are devastated but have tried out best to make ourselves busy with things that we won't be able to do with me pregnant or with a baby. So we booked ourselves a trip to Cuba to mark the three month point where we can start to try again. Flights and hotels are booked and paid for.

DP has looked online today and realised its a Zika virus area (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/zika/) so no trying to conceive while we're away - ok 2 weeks not so bad. The NHS recommendation is to wait another 2 months after travel BlushShock before trying again. We're both gutted. DP wants to cancel the trip, we will still have to pay for flights but can get our money back for the hotels/air bnb's we have booked. I'm on the fence, on one hand Cuba is a once in a lifetime for us, we can't afford to lose the money on flights and 2 months isn't the end of the world. On the other hand I'm 33 now, already had complications with one pregnancy and feel like I'm running out of time.

So my question is in my position would you cancel the holiday or continue and wait a little longer for TCC again?

Honestly? I think you should cancel. Or go and enjoy, but put babies on hold and get back on proper contraception for a good while!

We've had to avoid so many travel destinations for this. I know it's rubbish, but I've also been told six months for being a carrier. If you actually caught it, that's a year. Which is a long time.

There are other places. Yes it sucks losing the money but in six months time would you even remember?

There is a zika map online with where is ok if that helps.

Could you transfer the flights somewhere zika free?

Very similar situation just happened to me I cancelled.

Advice is 2 month wait for you but actually 6 months for DH.

I would and did cancel, I wouldn't have been able to enjoy my self.

If you do go it's at least 6 months from return so depends if you can wait that long.

Sorry about your previous loss. Good luck what ever you decide.

Thanks everybody for your comments and for not making me feel like an idiot for worrying or considering going. I definitely wouldn't want to wait a full year if I caught it! So that's a big fat massive let's not go right there.

Can't change the flights as we went cheap but in the grand scheme of things if we lose our money so be it. I would never want to risk passing on Zika to my baby.

If we go I'll get myself to the GP and back on the pill as a precaution, I'm swinging more towards not going now as having a baby is really important and would like to have 2 before I'm 40 if I can.
