Could I be pregnant but not showing on tests?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and totally confused so I'd be really grateful for your wise advice!

I missed my period due 29th Dec (I had some very light pink spotting but that was all) and I have just missed this month's period also (I have short cycles). Again, I had some very light spotting but just for one day.

In addition to this I am having some very unusual symptoms for me. My nipples are really sore, I am feeling very tearful, I'm bloated and both my hair and skin is far more greasy than normal.

Naturally I have done a pregnancy test (multiple actually) and they are mostly coming back clearly negative. One particular brand is bringing up a very VERY barely visible faint second line. Mumsnet isn't letting me post an image as I've just signed up but I will later if it lets me.

If I were pregnant it would have been from conception around 26th December. Which would make me about 7 weeks now.

I'm sorry if any of this sounds stupid. I've never been pregnant before so I don't know what's normal but I do know that I feel very unlike myself at the moment both physically and emotionally and obviously then there are the two missed periods (though I have missed them due to stress in the past).

So my questions are:

Is it possible that I'm just not showing on a pregnancy test yet? I've heard stories of people not showing on pregnancy tests until they are quite late on but I'm unsure if that actually happens? Would a blood test be more accurate?

Thank you so much in advance

Yes, a blood test would he more accurate. I'd phone the Dr and get one booked in.
What brand of tests have you used? By 7 weeks all tests should really be showing a positive if you are pregnant.

I've been in your position before and looked for stories of tests not showing positive in a pregnancy. It is extremely rare. More likely that you are not pregnant this time, you say you have missed periods in the past too. See your GP about it.

Same thing happened to my friend and in the end she had to go to her GP and request a blood test.

Good luck!

I would go to the Dr because if you aren't pregnant they may be able to investigate why you are missing periods etc. Best of luck!

I think something else is going on as the dates don't seem to be right. You say you would have conceived on 26th? Do you mean that's when you ovulated/had sex? If that were the case, how could your period have been due 29 Dec?

It all sounds odd so definitely get in with the GP?
