Why wouldn't it work?

HI all, apologies if this is a stupid question. I'm ttc number 2, and not having any luck. We have been using no contraception for nearly 2 years, no medical issues that I'm aware of. I started using the clear blue ovulation kits, pinpointed the days of my lh surge, dtd both days. Why would I not get pregnant doing this?

Unfortunately a lot of it is just luck - even with perfectly timed sex you only have ~20% chance of conceiving each month, it's not a guarantee just because you've pinpointed ovulation.

Sperm can be affected by loads of things (alcohol, caffeine, even having a cold) so it could be that no sperm made it as far as the egg you released. You might not have ovulated (a surge doesn't guarantee ovulation). Even if an egg gets fertilised there might have been random abnormalities with that particular egg or sperm that stop it from implanting. So there's plenty of unfortunate reasons that might mean you don't conceive even with perfect timing.

If you've been TTC for nearly 2 years can you speak to your GP? I know some interventions can't be done on the NHS if you already have a child but they might be willing to run some routine tests to see if there's anything that's changed since you had your first that might be causing you problems this time? Or if not I think something like 90% of couples will conceive within 2 years, so there's still time. Good luck xx

Thanks for your reply, I suppose I'm just frustrated. I think if this month is unsuccessful I'll speak to the gp

It's horrible and frustrating. Been TTC for just under 2 years too so I feel you! Fingers crossed it'll happen for you soon xx
