OPK question

Hi,
I’ve never used OPKs before but started using them today and it’s just added to the confusion around when ovulation is!

Basically, I’ve had fertile cm for a few days and Flo predicts ovulation for Friday. However, did one OPK today and there was a second line but it was lighter than the control which according to the instructions is a negative. Is it possible I’ve ovulated early or is it that ovulation hasn’t happened and won’t for a while? Very confused!

Hi OP, what day of your cycle are you on and how long are your cycles usually?

Thanks for the response. I’m day 15, cycles are usually between 29-31 days.

It is possible you have missed the surge then, with a 29 day cycle you'd be ovulating on CD15 so would've got a positive yesterday
I'd say next cycle start testing from day 9 or 10 twice a day

Keeping testing (and bonking), you might not necessarily have a 14-day luteal phase (bit between ovulation and period), so it might not have happened yet. My test strips would sometimes only turn positive in the 12 hours before O.

Yep, negative.

FWIW I gave up on OPKs after a couple of months and just focused on discharge and whether I was feeling like I needed to follow DP around the flat like a horny puppy. As soon as those two things went I counted it as ovulation! Much less stressful.

I was obsessed with doing these. I also used Flo which I don't think accurately predicated the dates. The month I stopped and just enjoyed myself every other day for three weeks solid with my partner, I fell pregnant. I know that's not particularly helpful and I got so annoyed with people telling me to relax but that is honestly what worked for me and just my experience with OPKs. xx

Sorry to jump on the thread but needed help, we've been trying only for a few months and this cycle (no 5) I thought I'd give OPK a go, started testing once a day since CD 9 and either got a line you could only see with a real squint or that you could just about see as super super faint, so tested pretty much every other day since. On CD20 today of an average 31D cycle and I have got this, but I have literally not been to the loo all day so it's about an 8hr hold... would this be positive or almost positive do we think?

I’m definitely no expert on this (see above!) but that looks much darker than any of the faint ones
