What baby books are worth buying???

@Riley1989 no worries! I know there are loads to choose from!, I've got a few in my collection but did like Holly Willoughby's book just straight forward and easy to read and same with what to expect when expecting. 🙂❤️

What to expect when you're expecting was the best book I bought and answered all my questions. Highly recommend it.

Seconding what to expect when you're expecting by Emily Ostler. I like to understand the reasons behind stuff so it was a good one for me

Your Baby Week by Week. Written by a journo and a paediatrician. It always gives a wide range of norms for development, and also includes some gentle ideas for routine and weaning, plus some ideas for self care for mum.

Expecting Better by Emily Oster - great for debunking the myths and tells you the WHY behind all those guidelines and 'rules' so you can make up your own mind.

The Gentle Parenting Book by Sarah Ockwell-Smith from pregnancy onwards. She’s also written a selection of books on more specific parenting issues which might be useful in baby and toddlerhood.

I loved What to Expect When You’re Expecting and What to Expect in the First Year. Very helpful, very nicely set out in month by month chunks so you can read ahead or refer to things. Dealt with all sorts of stuff that I just hadn’t thought about at all. (I wouldn’t recommend What to Expect in the Toddler Years though, it wasn’t anything like as good).

I also recommend The Happiest Baby on the Block. It’s a little American, but not a bad read for that and it has lots of useful tips (the toddler version is even better, I found it a godsend for dealing with challenging behaviour).

Entertaining your preschooler is also good and you can get it second hand really cheaply. It won’t be all that relevant to start with, but it has lots of “make it at home” ideas so worth a read because you can start collecting bits and bobs that will come in handy in time.

The only thing to note on baby books - your baby won’t have read them! I found my DD completely disregarded the standard order/timescales for learning things. They were still useful guides and had good ideas, but you have to adapt things a lot more than you may realise pre-baby. I’d actually recommend staying completely away from any books on sleep until your baby is at least 3 months old and you have a good idea of their temperament. Different kids seem to be REALLY different about what helps them sleep well, and all books imply that their way works for all kids.

Bump - how to make, grow and birth a baby by Kate Evans is a beautiful and informative book.

Also, The Positive Birth Book by Milli Hill.
