I don't think the ICs are a sensitive as they make out to be. I got the one step Amazon ones that say they are supposed to be 10mlu. But I took one the same day as a CB digi. The digi came out as 2-3 weeks pregnant and the IC was incredibly faint. So no way it's 10mlu.
I would say it all depends on what type of tester you are. Are you an addict that starts testing from 6dpo - in which case maybe get some ICs as they are inexpensive and it doesn't really matter if it's too early to test. Or if you are quite anxious and like to do lots of tests after a bfp to see the line progression.
If you like to wait til your AF is due/late then just get a FRER.

I found two types to be really good. Wondfo OPKs and hpt pack, 50 OPKs and 20 HPTs about £15. Picked up my BFP faintly at 8dpo. I also used one step tests which are 2 for £3 on Amazon and sensitive to 10 mIU/ml, gave me a stronger line after I tested with the wondfo strip. I used a first response at 12dpo and it scared me half to death as it was lighter than my one step.
