no line at all in OPK - test line, yes but no LH line two days running

Am expecting to ovulate in next three days and did two OPK tests at 3 or 4 in the afternoon over last two days. The test line came up quickly (so test working) but not even the faintest of faint lines appeared. Is this normal? I would expect this at end of cycle or very beginning but around cd 9 or 10??? of a 25 day cycle. I didn't use OPKs latterly when conceiving dd as they were so expensive and didn't really work but want to combine with charting this time to pinpoint ovulation and am now worried that in addition to short LP I have some LH deficiency. Anyone else get blank OPK results and then a few days later strong positive results?

Newkid really don't stress about this. I was in a complete flap earlier this week about the same thing so decided not to use them. My tip would be look for the natural signs - for me it's ov pains more than anythinge else - and have sex as much as possible. If you already know this is round about the time you ov then go on the basis that you've just missed the surge - they can be really short apparently.
Have a look at peeonastick.com for more info,
And try not to worry.

do you get ov pains after you have ovulated or before ? I had them at the beginning of this week which was cd10/11 does that mean I have ovulated already...usually temp too but haven't this month that much as kept forgetting...had ewcm 2 days ago... confused!

Treenie · 29/06/2007 12:11

Mixi I have no idea really - I think it might be as it's happening if that makes sense?
My pains are on the left side - few sharp shooting pains down the on side and then a dull ache - kind of like period pains and a bit of back ache too. Does that sound like yours?
I still feel a bit 'aware' of that area now - wee bit crampy etc. Is that what you are like? Feel free to add as much detail as you like as I would reall reassured to know what I'm feeling is normal! Hardly get any cm so have to look for all the other signs.
I reckon I ov around CD 22/23/

I know this seems obvious but just have loads of sex and then you can't miss it!

I would not unduly stress yourself out by using both OPK's and charting to pinpoint ovulation. It is all too easy to get the date wrong using such methods.

OPK's are beset with problems anyway; these work on the principles that women only have one rise in LH every month and that such a rise is immediately followed by ovulation. Both of these are simply not true.

I would look at what your periods are like overall; if they are regular in nature you are more likely to be ovulating on a regular basis. If periods are irregular then the opposite applies.

Even normally fertile women have the occasional anovulatory cycle.

Ovulation can occur earlier, later or not at all in ANY given cycle.

A blood test can be done to see what your hormone levels are like; this would give a far more accurate picture than charting or opk's.

Attila what do you think about ov pains? What are they meant to feel like?

And also attila what does it mean if you never see any CM to speak of? I don't seem to have any?! Am I a freak or nature?!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 29/06/2007 12:37

I have read ovulation pains to be like a sharp sting like pain. Should only last a few hours in duration, certainly not days.

Don't think you're a freak of nature; I would think your body does produce some cervical mucus. Would say that if you are really concerned speak with your GP. They won't be embarrassed at all to hear your questions and it will put your mind at rest.

Just wanted to add that I got lines on days 3 and 4 of testing using OPK but they were faint and then on day 5 (last test in pack) no line again, but temps have soared so I am confident that I've ov'd and that our timing was good. Also the 'faint' lines on the tests kind of confirm that ov was on its way about when I would have thought so not a complete waste but as attila says they are not an exact science. Also I have read that you really need to do two tests a day for it to be most accurate - more money for the test stick makers!
