Very light period and 1 week ovulation pain since coming off BCP

Hi all,

I came off microgynon back in May after about 15 years on it, and have been TTC for 4 cycles now. There are a number of things which seem abnormal to me since coming off, and I was wondering whether anyone might be experiencing something similar - and whether they have had some answers from doctors and/or managed to get pregnant.

First of all, my cycles are very irregular - I've had a couple of normal 28/29 day cycles, but the last two were 41/42 days long.
Secondly, I have weird ovulation pain (feels more like uncomfortable pelvic pressure) for a week leading up to ovulation - I am tracking my BBT so know when I ovulate.
Thirdly, I start getting period pains very soon after ovulation, sometimes for the whole 2 weeks leading up to my period.
And finally, and what I am most worried about, my periods seem to be getting lighter and lighter - pretty much just 1.5 days when I require a pad, then a couple of days of spotting, and no red blood at all, just brown (sorry tmi).

None of it feels normal, especially as I always used to have relatively heavy periods... I have had pelvic ultrasound scans, and cycle day 1 blood tests, which were all normal, just waiting for my cycle day 21 (or whenever is 1 week after ovulation) progesterone test.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks for any help/reassurance anyone might be able to provide... Feeling very alone with all these worries!

Doesn't sound unusual to me? The irregular cycles could easily still be down to the pill. Very surprised you've had tests already.

Periods and cycles change with age, so this could be your new normal with regards to af.

Thanks physicskate, yes I do hope it's just that my periods have gotten lighter with age - it's just that they are SO light, i feel like they barely qualify as periods, more like just spotting...

I think the tests were for the combination of all things - the week long ovulation pain and near continuous period pain. But I guess if all tests come back normal then I have to assume this is all the new normal for me... Just hope it doesn't effect my chances of getting pregnant.

Hey @Hope365, I know this is a super old thread, but did you ever find out what was going on? Or did things return to normal?
I'm having literally the exact same experience word by word. Lighter periods, week long ovulation pain and then period pain a week before my period. This is the only thread I've found that matches my experience! I'm 28 and periods normal up until 1 year ago... Hope you are doing well and things worked out for you!

Hi @amalfitana, first of all I'm so sorry to hear you're experiencing this too... Are you TTC? Did you used to be on the pill or did your period just change on its own a year ago?

I'll start by saying that I am currently almost 24 weeks pregnant, so I hope this will give you some hope! It did require IVF though - we never really got to the bottom of what was wrong, but my thin lining was a likely suspect, and probably caused by years on the pill... It never did go back to normal for me, but I know it can for others. I responded well to the the drugs I took as part of the IVF cycle and managed to get a good lining thickness, and we were incredibly lucky that our first embryo decided to stick around 🥰

I did a lot of research over the 2 and half years we were trying, and saw a lot of doctors, so happy to speak anytime if you think I could be helpful in any way or just want to chat - just DM me (I know all too well how lonely it can feel, especially when no one else seems to have the same problem) 😊 x
