We tried but couldn't get the timing right for ovulation. I ovulated at around 4am Sunday morning for months on end.(!!)

I only had 2 months before the donor shortage hit, and neither worked. Both times I got my LH line in the morning, went in for the scan and they predicted/guessed that I'd ov the following day so told me to come back in the next lunchtime for insem. But both times I felt very strongly that I ov'd later that day (ie, more than 12 hours before insem). Having tried now for much longer (DIY with known-donor sperm) I would prob be VERY demanding about having a scan on the second morning to check it wasn't a waste of time/hope/money/sperm. I'd also probably pee on LH sticks around the clock in order to support my argument for an earlier insem.

Good luck!

Hi Nelli30 I have had 10 stimulated iui's and have 2 sons. You can only have a certain amount off stimulations to your ovaries in a lifetime. My oldest son is almost 6yrs and I am desparate for another baby! Went to see consultant this week, had a scan and I had a 20mm follicle...!! on my left ovary, this would normally have taken me alot of injections at 5 ampules to get this far so I was really impressed with myself. I have got to go and have a blood test next week to see if the egg released. The consultant also mentioned self iui. This is just a natural way of treating you and giving you an accurate chance of conceiving without drugs. GO FOR IT ! What have you got to lose? It is completely harmless. It will also keep your mind occupied until you have your next IVF. I am going to have it if nothing comes of my wonderful 20mm follicle!!! Here's hoping! Good Luck. XXX

How (technically) does this work? Where can you buy the inseminator tool?

Hi Cityangel. Self IUI is when you are monitered throughout the month by the hospital, they will be able to be very accurate as to if you are going to ovulate. If you are then you will be asked to bring a sample of your partners sperm to the lab where it will be sorted to get the "best ones". You will collect the sample from the lab about 1hr later. It will then be placed inside you via a tiny catheter. It takes about 2 minutes and is similar to having a smear test. This method gets the sperm higher up than normal intercourse would. XX
