Ovulation After MMC

Hi

I'm looking for advice on when or how to track my cycle after MMC.

When would you class as cycle day 1?

I had a negative test after 3 weeks and my first period 3 weeks after that.

I was told to wait until a period to start trying again by the midwives and consultant who I was with. It makes it easier to track then too.

DaisyChainsForever · 02/01/2019 22:56

have u had a period since ur mmc?

Kinsters · 03/01/2019 01:54

Did you have erpc? If so then the date of the surgery is cycle day one otherwise it is the date you started bleeding.

I had an MMC in December and erpc on 17 December. I usually ovulate like clockwork on CD13 or CD14 but now it's CD18 and still nothing (I'm tracking my temperature and also using OPKs although I think the OPKs are affected by residual pregnancy hormones so I don't totally trust them).

I think it can take a while for your body to get back to normal so if you just use the calendar method you'll be unlikely to predict your ovulation date correctly.

I've not had a period since, I medically managed but no erpc so nothing to date from.

Just curious to see how things get back to normal.

@kinsters sorry you're going through this too.

Hello.

I had a late miscarriage at 18.5 weeks but the baby had died a little bit earlier so it was also a mmc.

I had a 'period' about 4.5 weeks later which matched my normal cycle of 33 days but it was very light and more like spotting. I had t ovulated in between so I guess that's why.

Then nothing for 6 more weeks when I finally ovulated for the first time. So 10 weeks or so overall until first ovulation.

I am now in 2ww so envisage getting my first proper period - overall 12 weeks.

I think it does take time to go back to normal and from my experience the best thing is to be patient with your body. I was feeling v v stressed about it - worried my normal
cycle would never come back and stressed about being able to get pregnant again. But then I relaxed and forgot about it over Christmas and.... bam, I ovulated.

I did have 5 weeks of reflexology too which I believe helped get my cycle back (or at the least was very relaxing!!

Wishing you luck and sorry for your loss x

Skybooks oh ok, if it was medically managed cycle day one should be the date the miscarriage properly started i.e. more than spotting. But yeah, like Molly says, I wouldn't expect a normal cycle (although it seems different for everyone).

It's shit isn't it and nothing we can do except stress wait.

Skybooks · 03/01/2019 15:43

Thanks for your reply,

Yup definitely stressing and waiting here... am i mad for wanting to ttc this month, I know it's advised to wait until after first proper period buy the idea of missing a chance makes me sad.

Sorry for your loss xxx I had a second mmc (live birth in between) in September ‘18. It is best to wait for your first period - usually between 4-6 weeks after your mc - to be able to track. However that doesn’t mean you can’t have sex and you may ovulate. Some people have one or more anovulatory cycles after a mc. I’ve just finished my 3rd af after the mc. Cycles have been 35days, 35 days and then 29 days.

AvoidingMarking · 03/01/2019 19:52

I fell pregnant 8 weeks after my MMC in April. Hope that isn't insensitive to say... just trying to let you know it can happen quickly. We had tried for 9 months before I got pregnant then so it was a bit of a shock to be pregnant again so quickly.

Skybooks · 03/01/2019 21:14

@avoidingmarking not insensitive at all kind of what I would like (wouldn't we all) just kind of want to know if I'm being crazy by thinking it.

DS took 6 cycles to conceive and MMC (Dbaby??) Took 3 so I'm secretly hopefully to fall again soon but don't want to cause any more risk if that makes sense.

@lumpy76 I guess this is a wait and see time them, sorry for you loss too.

Yes I think it is wait and see....the worst part!! I’m guessing that my 35day cycles were probably anovulatory but maybe not...who knows - I did try to opk but I’m terrible at reading them! When my periods come back after having a baby they usually are around 35 days at first.

Jellyfish4 · 10/01/2019 14:34

Just wanted to say that I’d check with your gp if there’s any medical reason not to try before your first period; I miscarried October just gone at 12 weeks, had a D&C and was told that other than for dating purposes, we could start trying as soon as bleeding stopped and we felt comfortable doing so (but obviously to stop if any pain, bleeding during etc.)
Got a negative about three weeks after and started using opks but I had about three surges so I’m assuming I didn’t ovulate (which can be common the first cycle after a mc). Had first period afterwards about 6 weeks later and used opks the next month (clear blue advanced) and found out end of December we’d conceived that month :)

So yeah if you’re itching to try again then I’d contact your gp and ask if there’s any medical reason not to, but also be aware that you may not actually ovulate the first cycle after a MC. Wishing you luck!!

Skybooks · 10/01/2019 16:45

@Jellyfish4 congratulations! Nope no reason we have to wait other than dating we aren't taking any precautions so hopefully it could happen as quickly for us.

Hope you are well.
