Missed Period but Neg Tests??

Hi Guys,

This is my first post and I'm quite new to Mumsnet! Me and my partner have been TTC for a couple of months now.

My period was due on the 27th (2 days ago) and still no sign of it.

I haven't really had many symptoms of pregnancy or my period which I usually do apart from fatigue really.

I tested the day my period was due and tested again this morning and both were negative.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had experience with negative tests after a missed period and if any of them have turned in to positives?

Trying not to get my hopes up but also trying not to get defeated until AF arrives!

Just for a bit of background, I went on the pill 4 years ago, before this my cycles were slightly irregular where it could be between 30 and 35 days for the length of my cycle, however, since coming off the pill about a year ago my periods have always been pretty regular and usually come on the predicted day on my apps!

TIA!

Hi,

Haven’t got any advice to give but wanted to say that I’m in the same position! My period was due yesterday (28th) but hasn’t arrived yet. Done several tests at different points, all negative.
Have been scouring the internet looking for stories of people who have had negative tests and then gone on to have positives! Fingers crossed for both of us!

Lou

@LouDew hopefully we will get our positives soon!

I tried to find answers on the internet too but couldn't find anything so hopefully somebody on here will be able to give some experiences!

Good Luck!🤞

I have some hope at the moment...not sure how long it will last!
I fell pregnant back in August in our first cycle of ttc. I had several negative tests when af was due and for a couple of days after. Forgot all about it as we were on holiday and then tested a week later and got a positive. Unfortunately I miscarried at 12+3 weeks but it has given me hope that I may just have to wait a few more days before I get a positive!
This is my first proper cycle since the miscarriage and have definitely felt some of the symptoms I had last time, although I’m not sure if it’s just wishful thinking.
Would be good to hear if anyone else has had negatives followed by a positive later on.

Lou

Late ovulation is very possible and common. Any change in routine can cause it (holidays?). It means af will be late by the same number of days or you'd get a bfp later than your 'missed' af.

HannahW29 · 29/12/2018 22:19

Well that's me out, AF came while I was at work today!😔

@LouDew sorry to hear about your MC and I have my fingers crossed for you that this is your month! The fact you're having the same symptoms as last time is a good sign and hopefully you'll get your BFP in a day or two! Wait a few more days and if AF hasn't arrived and tests are still Neg it may be worth visiting your GP for a blood test!

We are currently TTC our first, we've been actively trying since October but I've been off my pill since about Feb as we didn't want to put too much pressure on it straight away!
It's not happened yet but hopefully will happen soon!

Fingers Crossed for you!🤞☺️

@HannahW29 that’s disappointing that AF showed up. At least you can move onto your next cycle and get prepared!

I was kept awake all night by sore boobs...convinced myself I am definitely pregnant...took a test this morning...BFN. I’m now 2 days late and definitely feeling lots of symptoms, nausea, fatigue, achey lower abdomen (not cramping) but there seems to be no sign on any of the tests.

Maybe it’s just all in my head!

I hope your next cycle brings you better luck!

HannahW29 · 30/12/2018 09:02

@LouDew thankyou, hopefully will have better luck next cycle!

Do you usually get similar symptoms with your period or is it unusual for you to get symptoms like that?

You're not out until AF arrives so good luck!

If there's no sign of AF or a BFP in a few days, may be worth getting a docs app for a blood test!

@HannahW29 well they weren’t my usual AF symptoms before the MC but I know things can change after. It took 6 weeks for my AF to come back after and I’m waiting for my second one now. Part of me thinks it may be just taking a while to get back to normal...but I don’t want to lose hope just yet!
Will definitely head to the doctor next week if no sign of AF.

Thanks for listening! I’ve found this website a good place to let it all out!

Mrsmummy90 · 30/12/2018 10:51

My period was 10 days late before I got my positive test. I'm now 11 weeks. Apparently if you ovulate late, you get your positive late xx

Mrsmummy90 · 30/12/2018 10:53

Just read your last post. Sorry to hear you got af xx

HannahW29 · 30/12/2018 13:25

@LouDew sounds like they could be pregnancy symptoms then! Don't lose hope until AF arrives, you never know!

Yeah I've found it really helpful too, this is my first post but I've found it good being able to read other peoples and the replies!

Let me know how you get on!

@Mrsmummy90 Congratulations on your pregnancy!!😁

Yeah AF arrived but hopefully next month will be my month!

My partner works away and is away just now but will be home a the week before I ovulate so the timing will be good so keeping my fingers crossed!

Thank you! I have my fingers crossed for you xx

LouDew · 31/12/2018 14:03

@HannahW29 my af turned up this morning...3 days late Hmm
Never mind! Onto the next cycle! Mixed feelings all round at the moment.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/12/2018 14:13

My mums missed periods and negative tests are now my 35 year old dsis!

physicskate · 31/12/2018 15:23

That could partially be explained by the fact that 35 years ago they did not have 10 miu/l sensitivity tests. It's incredibly rare to be pregnant and not get a positive test - something like less than 1 in 1000 by 3 weeks after ovulation (so not impossible but highly improbable).

HannahW29 · 02/01/2019 12:40

@LouDew Awk that's a shame! Better luck for the next cycle, I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

Thank you everyone for the replies, not my month this month but fingers crossed for next month! 😁
