I had an ultrasound for cysts but have been having pregnancy symptoms for a few weeks. The tech wouldnt tell me anything I have to wait to speak to my doctor. ARGH! Would the tech tell me if i was??

If you're far enough along to have had symptoms for weeks you're far enough along to get a positive pregnancy test result. POAS.

If your on mobile click on the paper clip below the box that you type in. What did your pregnancy test say? Can't see why they wouldn't tell you if you were pregnant

How helpful redsky 😒😒

ballsdeep · 28/12/2018 19:54

And imo the radiographers can't tell you anything anyway and will always say the doctor needs to contact you

Redskyandrainbows67 · 28/12/2018 19:55

That’s not true - I had a scan and was told there and then as they went along what they could see

toomanygreys · 28/12/2018 19:55

Jesus redsky

Redskyandrainbows67 · 28/12/2018 19:55

For cysts that is

Alb1 · 28/12/2018 19:57

I think it's more likely that the tech isn't a doctor and therefore isn't in a position to discuss results in anyone's case, they probably don't have the time to go through the detail and the doctor would have to rediscuss for any treatment anyway so why waste time. If your going to jump straight to telling the OP they may have cancer when the suggestion wasn't even on the table it's probably better to just not post Confused

emzw12 · 28/12/2018 19:59

Many sonographers won't tell you the results while you are there, usually they get someone else to look at the scan as well and then write a report.
My dad recently had a prostate US and they wouldn't say anything he had to wait to speak to GP a few days later - it was all fine, so not like they found something of concern and wouldn't tell him.

concernedforthefuture · 28/12/2018 20:00

No they probably wouldn't say. I had to have a liver scan when I was around 4 months pregnant. The sonographer made a point of saying before she started that it wasn't a pregnancy scan and she hopefully wouldn't catch sight of the baby, but even if she did, she wouldn't be able to discuss it (or indeed anything else she saw).

FestiveNut · 28/12/2018 20:01

They can't diagnose cancer from a scan. They might send someone in for a biopsy based on the results, but even that wouldn't mean cancer necessarily.

FestiveNut · 28/12/2018 20:02

Also, sometimes they need to review the footage/images to work out what they think they saw, so can't tell straight away even if they want to.

KitKat1985 · 28/12/2018 20:05

OP why not just take a pregnancy test?

onemorego2019 · 28/12/2018 20:05

Could you take a test in the interim maybe?

SoyDora · 28/12/2018 20:07

FestiveNut the OP didn’t mention cancer?

PerverseConverse · 28/12/2018 20:09

They usually do vaginal ultrasound for very early pregnancy scans because abdominal scans don't pick them up easily as the pregnancy sac is tucked so far down and the pubic bone is in the way. Am sure I read it takes 10-12 weeks for the the uterus to rise from behind the pubic bone. Unlikely they'd see an early pregnancy as would have to specifically look and you'd need a very full bladder.

Kikipost · 28/12/2018 20:09

They would 100% tell you

FestiveNut · 28/12/2018 20:09

No @soydora, I was responding to redskyandrainbows67

onemorego2019 · 28/12/2018 20:15

I had a very early scan once. Think it was 5/6 weeks. Didn't need an internal scan but I do recall having a very full bladder!

Try not to worry op they would tell you without delay if there was anything untoward as suggested 🙄 and now deleted!

Perhaps take a test to put your mind at rest re pregnancy? Are you late?

bobstersmum · 28/12/2018 20:25

I had ultrasound to diagnose pcos and I asked the tech if they could see anything, she said your doctor has asked to confirm pcos and it does.
If you were pregnant I'm pretty sure they'd tell you.
