Hello, I'm a bit new to this... Me and my hubby are TTC. I've been on the pill since I was 17, I'm now 32. I finished my packet and then just didn't take the next one. How long did it take for your body to get back to normal periods? It's been 4 weeks since my last and my app says I should be any day but just don't feel like it's coming. Thanks

I’m in the same boat - Microgynon since 18 and I’m now 32. I stopped in July and it was about a month but my period was only 2 days long. I took another packet in September for a holiday where I knew we’d be drinking a lot (!) and then went off when I finished the pack in October. Had my period in November, about 4 days this time. I understand it can be fairly irregular for a while, and everyone’s different. My main trouble is I don’t really know what my cycle was before I went on the pill so I din’t Know what my cycle length was originally! I’m using Flo to try to work it out. So you’re not alone with the uncertainty. Good luck, and try not to stress about it too much!

Hi
I’m new to this too. I have been on the pill ages 16-19, Depo injection 19-29 and then pill again from 29 until last month (32) and I had my withdrawal bleed and then a natural one 28 days later.
When I spoke to my doctor about it they advised it can be different for every person so don’t worry too much just yet although I know you probably just want it to happen already as I was the same!!!

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 15/12/2018 23:25

@Lucybethol for me I took my last pill on 8th August (id also been on the pill for 15 years, from 15 to 30yo). I had my first BFP on 27th October. Currently 10+3 with baby due 10th July.

Everyone is different, this is first baby and first time I've come off the pill.

Good luck!

AssumethePerpendicular · 15/12/2018 23:32

On the pill from age 19-33, stopped end of September. Baby born following August! Good luck, everyone is different and try not to worry about it, can take some time, there’s some good info on NHS choices website about when to seek help.

Lucybethol · 15/12/2018 23:36

Thanks! I'm just a bit worried because I started the pill then as my periods were horrific 😭 but now I'm just waiting for it to arrive. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm using Flo too! I would ask my friends but also don't really want to tell people yet.

Congratulations @ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts that's amazing!

I was on the pill until 36 and got one period and now have a soon to be nine year old. Don’t even remember having a period but I must have had one. Good luck!

Lucybethol · 15/12/2018 23:50

Thanks! I'll give it a few days and then maybe a test at least that will put my mind at ease.

After I came off the pill I didn't have a period for 3 months but then I got pregnant 2 weeks after that x

Jellybabie3 · 16/12/2018 00:35

Hi OP. I was on cerelle from the age of 17 to 30. I came off on Halloween 2016 had a slight withdrawal bleed in November then my BFP by January. I now have a 14mo. It can happen. I would maybe do a test. Goodluck!

artemis2 · 16/12/2018 07:30

Using an app is a bit pointless until you've had around 4-6 periods.

Some people take 3 months to get their period back... some people take a year. It's likely you won't be regular for a while either, but you could be lucky. The NHS recommends waiting 3 months before TTC after going off the pill.

Know that it's entirely normal and that there's no reason to worry :) You just gotta get patient for a couple months. Your baby will be for life so having to TTC for a few extra months makes no difference in the grand scheme of things :)

artemis2 · 16/12/2018 07:37

Ps. went off pill last April (and my periods were horrific too). Had first real period after 6 weeks and waited 2 months to start TTC. Got BFP on third cycle trying :) (and it was at this point that my cycles were just starting to be back to how they were before pill).

Worth remembering the chance of conceiving each month if you DTD at the right time is around 20-25%, so it's totally normal to take up to a year to concieve. Best of luck - I'm sure it will happen soon!

Pastaallday · 16/12/2018 09:47

I'm also similar age and had been on the pill since I was 16. Came off in September and took 70 days before my first period. Pretty sure I'm ovulating again now but didn't take quite a while to kick start.

Pastaallday · 16/12/2018 09:47

Sorry did *

Lucybethol · 16/12/2018 09:51

@artemis2 Don't worry Im not expecting to get pregnant super quick, I know it can take time. I think I just want a period so I know it's not as horrible or is as horrible as they were. That's my main worry at the moment. And I wasn't regular then either if I remember correctly. Either way I know it will be worth it.

Thanks everyone. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who's been on the pill for ages and then trying. I always wondered if that would effect anything. Also knowing that my periods will be a little all over the place and that's perfectly normal too helps. It's good to hear from normal people and not doctor's etc. 😃

I was on microgynon from 17-26. When I came off to TTC my DD my cycles didn’t regulate at all until 6 months down the line and even then they were a bizarre pattern (possible PCOS?) I still managed to conceive after TTC for 10 months. Going to TTC again next year and will be coming off the pill 6 months in advance x

WhatALearningCurve · 16/12/2018 09:54

Hi, I'm 30, been on the pill since 16 (Microgynon or equivalent). Came off the pill in April, was pregnant by the start of June!

mortifiedmama · 16/12/2018 10:02

I was also on the pill for 15 years, various ones. My cycle came regular immediately, so it can happen!

DianaBlythe · 16/12/2018 10:05

On the pill age 15-28 with a couple of breaks of a month or so. Stopped December. Period came back pretty regularly straight away, 25-28 days and then solidly 26 days by the summer.

Took 22 months to conceive but got pregnant just after having an HSG so wondering if it was more some sludge and blockage than anything else.

artemis2 · 16/12/2018 12:48

@Lucybethol I was the same before going on the pill! The first few "proper" periods were okay, but seemed to get worse unfortunately :/ nowhere near as bad as when I was a teenager so fingers crossed it'll be the same for you!

Sucks being female!! ;)

stokieginge · 16/12/2018 16:40

@Lucybethol I came off the pill in April after 15 years and my periods have been like clock work since. I'm on a 28 day cycle. Although AF doesn't visit for as long as she used to. And is no where near as heavy.

When I was on the pill I'd be heavy for 4/5 days.

Now I'm heavy for 1/2. With 3/4 days of spotting.

cherrylo86 · 17/12/2018 14:14

I am same age, was on pill since 17, came off in April. So far my cycles have been long! 101 days until my first period after withdrawal bleed. Then 51, then 78. Currently on day 18 of this cycle. So mine have been irregular to say the least but a lot of people just go back regular pretty soon. Hopefully you will be in the latter bunch.

Towards the end of my pill taking, my periods had started to become non-existent with maybe a few hours worth of bleeding so I saw my GP who took some bloods but they didn't show anything worrying. I decided to come off it to try and regulate things again in preperation for starting to TTC in September but obviously not at that stage yet as still very irregular. Going to see her tomorrow as I am worried my pill was masking something. I gained weight over the last few years without my diet/exercise regime changing, have lots more dark hairs appearing on my chin/neck, tired all the time and now I've been off the pill I have raging hormonal acne. The pill hides all kinds and I had no idea what it felt like to be hormonal!!

Anyway, hope yours come back soon and regular :)

Lucybethol · 18/12/2018 00:26

Thanks everyone! Still no sign of AF but I'm sure shell arrive eventually 🙄 this has really helped knowing people are all different so makes me feel so much better. It sucks being a girl. Why do boys just get to do the fun bit hey?

Mine came back after properly after about 2 months and were bloody painful! I thought I’d have problems conceiving as like you I’d been on the pill since I was a teen but I got pregnant within a few months so I wouldn’t worry too much. I used the app glow to track my ovulation and then DP and I tried to pack in as much sex as possible.
