TTC After implant, should I test ovulation before period ?

Last time TTC I waited for my period, went of an app and got pregnant I never even thought I could of got pregnant before having a period! Should I test for ovulation if I don't want to get pregnant before having at least 1 period? Thanks plus any advice TTC after implanon is also helpful :)
