Hi, me and my partner want to TTC fairly soon, he has inflammatory arthritis and takes sulfasalazine and won’t see his specialist again til April. It is understood sulfasalazine can reduce sperm count and mobility and may even make the man temporarily infertile while he’s taking it. We want to TTC nevertheless, but I’m now worrying if the medication may cause any abormalities to the baby?

My other question is has anybody successfully conceived with their partner on this medication or similar?

Thanks!

I think he should ask for another appointment with either his GP or his specialist before you try to get pregnant.

That’s probably a sensible idea. I think he has the phone number for the secretary of his rheumatologist. He’s going to ring next week and see if he can speak to him about it over the phone. I think I’m just getting too excited and carried away lol, always best to double check with the experts first though I guess!!

They'll give him great advice, I'm sure. Best of luck with ttc!
