Dear All,
for some reason my cycle has shortened to 21 days for the last few months. I'm just starting to try to get pregnant again, and I'm not sure when I'd be ovulating as my cycle's that much shorter. It wouldn't be the usual 14 days from the first day of your last period would it? Dd is 17 months old, and I fell pregnant really quickly with her. I don't get abdo pain or any other symptoms of ovulation. Is there some easy way to work it out, or should I buy one of those ovulation kit things if nothing happens for a few months. Any advice gratefully received...

I understand that your luteal phase after ovulation generally does not change with the length of your cycle so if you know how many days into your cycle you used to ovulate at you may be able to work it out. However your best bet would probably be to start tracking on fertility friend asap so that you can get an idea of your cycle again. I have never managed to get a good result with opks but if you don't mind the expense go for this as well!

Ovulation is not an exact science by any means and it is quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

Would suggest you keep tabs on your cycles over say the next three to six months - and without using methods like temp charting as this can make things more stressful over time. Such methods are also not reliable indicators of ovulation for women whose cycles have become more irregular over time.

A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days; if these start to become a lot shorter then would seek medical advice.

Dear All,
thanks for the info, I've tried looking on the ttc threads but have a poor understanding of the abreviations
What's....cd..bd..bfn..dpo...af
The site will make so much more sense with that info. I'll have a good nose through the fertility friend stuff as well, thanks for that.

cd = cycle day
bd = baby dance = sex
bfn = big fat negative (I think)
dpo = days past ovulation
af = aunt flo = your period

I think.

Thanks Soupdragon and Twiglet,
I've heard your period called many things, but never before Aunt Flo...and I thought BD was sex, but couldn't work out the connection. The fertility thread stuff is good, think I'll leave the temperature taking for a bit as I do shift work.
It's a steep learning curve...
