Dpo or days till AF???

Hi ladies, quick question. I ovulate on around day 10 of my 28 day cycle. Frer talk about days prior to af when you can test but people on here talk about testing so many dpo. But if I test on about 12 dpo then I'm still quite a way off af. So which do i go off? Dpo or days until af?
Thanks

How do you know you ovulate cd 10? That seems very very early for a 28 day cycle. Average luteal phase is about 14 days, with 'normal' being 10-16 days.

Based on opks.

Frer are assuming that you have a 14 day LP, so they are basically saying some people might see a positive from 8dpo (6 days before af in a standard cycle). 8 dpo is generally considered the earliest you could get a positive as implantation won’t happen until at least 7 days after ovulation.

However physicskate is right - cd10 would be very early to ovulate on a 28 day cycle. Are you getting a peak opk on day 10? My understanding is that after the surge is detected it means you will ov between 24 and 72 hours later, so you might actually be ovulating in day 12/13....

All this is purely academic though - the only really reliable time to test is when af is late! There genuinely are no upsides to testing before this (easier said than done I know). If you get a negative before af is due you will convince yourself it’s just too early to test. If it’s positive you have to deal with the fear of it being a chemical and it’s even more devastating if it doesn’t work out... this is the conclusion I came to after many many months of disappointment - early testing really is the devi 👿

Do you get the positive on cd10? Or do you ov cd 10? Do you keep testing?

Generally most people count ov as the day after positive opk and then 1 dpo is the day after that (so would be cd 12 by a positive on cd 10). It might get be this is a day or three earlier than you normally ovulate?

Ok all that makes sense. Maybe it is later than I've assumed. Lucky we kept going at it!
