Question about the morning after pill

After a little mishap with a condom yesterday I went to the chemist today to get the morning after pill.

The chemist said to take one tablet now and another 12 hours later and that it was very important to make sure that there was exactly 12 hours between pills.

On the Box and in the leaflet though it says to take both the tablets together as soon as possible.

I'm confused now. Has anyone used the morning after pill? What were you advised to do?

I had to do the 12 hour thing.

i have - about 8 years ago and about 3 years ago - i think they have changed it quite a lot in the last few years (from an oestrogen pill to a progestogen pill) IIRC 8 years ago it would have been 2 lots every 12 hours, and 3 years ago it was take them all at once. I would be inclined to follow the patient leaflet rather than the chemist on this one.

I'd phone back the chemist and ask them again.

The way to take the morning after pill has just changed and the new advice has not been fully filtered out to all suppliers yet. Basically research has shown that many people forget to take the 2nd pill on time because often the 2nd pill has to be taken in the early hours of the morning, late at night, etc (it is VITAL that it is exactly 12 hours later).

The new advice is to take both pills together at same time ASAP after the unprotected intercourse. This is no less effective that the 12 hours apart advice, in fact it is probably more effective. However, both ways will work so its up to you which way you choose to go about it. My advice would be to take both pills together after having something to eat. HTH. Let me know if you need to know anything else.
