SMEP help and does it work?

How does the SMEP work exactly? I gather there are days you DTD and then have a one day break? Does this have a better success rate than DTD every other day or everyday during the fertile period? Thanks!

I think it's a good rule to try and follow. I've had success with it twice now. It just guarantees you're covering that fertile few days.

The plan is, you dtd every other day during your cycle. Start using opks around cd 10/11. When you get a positive opk, DTD that day, the day after, and the day after that. Then have a day off, and dtd then dtd one more time.

I was TTC four four cycles before trying SMEP....first cycle doing it and it worked! I'm now 21 weeks :)

There was a lovely thread here back when I was trying...think this was around July time....which was a fab support network. It's proper shattering and it was great to have a thread to go to to share BFP's and hilarious escapade stories ;) Mine ended up being conceived during a last minute dash to a disabled toilet whilst staying at my grandparents time share in New Hampshire USA. Honestly...I ended up finding it a lot of fun trying to make exciting ways of doing it every day.

A quick google will break down the sequence a lot easier. I found Fertility Friend amazing for tracking the exact days we did it and working out when you can have a break. Good luck ☺️

SMEP ensures that you start dtd in plenty of time. Lots of couples wait until a positive opk before getting jiggy with it and by then it's often too late. SMEP focuses on lots if sex before ovulation and then a couple of times just for luck once you ovulate. You don't have to follow it religiously, just focus on sex before a positive opk.

@overagain Thanks. How do you know when to DTD before you get a positive opk? Especially if your cycles aren't regular?

If your cycles are 26-30 days long start dtd on cd8, for longer cycles start on cd10. Do it every other day until ovulation symptoms (or positive opk) then everyday for 3 days then a break day then once more for luck.
