Ugh. After reading positive articles with titles like "chances of success are high if you do three cycles" I came across an online IVF success rate calculator, based on a load of data from clinics. I thought my chance of success would be around 30% as we're using donor eggs, we had a chemical pregnancy last time, we're on our third cycle etc.

Nope - came out at 20.6% chance of success per cycle. This has really demoralised me and after reading some very sad updates from fellow hopeful mumsnetters this morning I'm thinking after this third cycle is there really any point in continuing this battle?

If anyone is interested in the calculator:

I have no advice but I’m
Pretty sure I read somewhere that when ttc you only have about a 20% chance of getting pregnant each month. So I wouldn’t be demoralised at all by your chances of ivf working.. it seems to be the same chance as those who don’t need ivf? I know it’s a totally different ball game but a 1 in 5 chance of getting pregnant sounds like it’s worth trying to me! I wish you all the luck in the world Flowers and hope it’s third time lucky for you x

Hi @JellycatElfie - I didn't think of it like that, and I do find it comforting so thank you.

Thank you also for your good wishes - I don't know what your circumstances are but I wish you well too!

I did that calculator a few years ago and got 12%.
I now have a 3 and a 6 year old from one cycle plus there were good quality embryos frozen, so I don't think it takes into account all the variables - it can't, as they aren't all known yet, plus that is quite an old calculator, not taking into account any recent advances.
Ivf is luck - roll the dice and be kind to yourself, and ignore these odds. Best of luck xx

I just tried the calculator based on my situation pre ivf 3 years ago. I had a 29.9% chance of it working. Well I’m looking at my 2 year old and my newborn baby who were conceived in one (our first and only) round of ivf. Yes my chances were low but it worked for us so it could for you too.

Hi the hospitals modify their protocols to increase chances of success. I was successful 2 nd time round with ICSI. Was told I had to have IVF for other children but went on to have 2 other children naturally. These are stats only and it depends on your unique issues . Stay positive

Oh wow. It's so good to hear these success stories. I seem to plummet into despair on a fairly regular basis these days - it doesn't take much to send me down a spiral of negative thoughts! My latest is "I don't deserve a baby because I'm a bad person for being secretly jealous of my pregnant friends" . . .

Thank goodness for kind mumsnetters!

I thought if you were using donor eggs it’s a much higher chance of pregnancy, I was told 50% by my clinic. My wife donated her eggs to me and we were told chances are much higher when using donated eggs and not your own. Maybe your calculator doesn’t take this into consideration. Keep positive.
