Has anyone had acupuncture for lack of periods?

My periods have not returned since I stopped the pill in August. I'm aware it can take a while for normality to resume but I've been on the pill for years and years so don't really know what is normal for me. I'm keen for my period return as we were planning TTC from next month!
Has anyone tried acupuncture and could this help? I've started drinking raspberry leaf tea and taking zinc and vit b tablets.

Yes, it can. I got really stressed during my degree and my periods stopped. We'd just moved house and I'd had yet another m/c and varying other stuff. I'd gone to help my stress levels, next spot the lady asked what day of my cycle I was on and I said I didn't know forgetting that two days after my acu I'd got my period. She looked at me and said in the last week... Lol

I've tentatively booked in a for an initial consultation for acupuncture focussing on fertility, specifically kick starting my period to return and ovulation. Are there any more success stories out there?

When I came off the pill after about 14 years my periods didn't re-start so after six months I saw a fertility consultant and was diagnosed with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea and advised I required fertility treatment (which I had and was successful). I did manage one natural period after 386 days Confused Not sure if this is helpful but if you have a combination of stress, low weight / body fat and restrictive eating then this is something to explore. I can highly recommend the book 'No Period Now What?!' and accompanying Facebook group.

That's interesting @Moomin37. I'm not underweight but I'm only 5'2 and weigh around 110lb I'm slim but not underweight although I do watch what I eat and calories etc. Perhaps I should eat a bit more then.
But when I was a teen and has periods I was smaller than I am now.
Thank you for the book recommendation. I'll look that up.

Hey @Pastaallday I've never been underweight either (except for a few times whilst breastfeeding) and a lot of people with HA aren't underweight. In the book it plots the BMI of 286 HA'ers and only 33% of them were underweight and 7.5% had a BMI of 22 or above (the rest were between 18.5 and 21). Everyone needs a different BMI to keep them cycling. People with HA tend to underfuel themselves and may not eat a variety of food sources. Just realised I didn't mention exercise either as that is the third element of HA - again you don't have to be an athlete / running marathons etc.

@Moomin37 do you mean exercise is good or not? I don't exercise at all really! I'm not sure how long to leave it until I see a GP if they don't return . I was going to go in Jan maybe as would have been about 4 month after I stopped the pill for me. Not sure if they'll say that's too early though and it needs time to settle down. In the mean time I might give acupuncture a go. Did you have normal periods before you started the pill? I was always regular before I did although that was when I was a teenager!

Moomin37 · 10/11/2018 21:08

@Pastaallday exercise can be problematic when combined with under fuelling and stress. I was going to ask if you've been to the GP and had some blood tests. I used to have regular periods before going on the pill. It might just be post pill amenorrhea in which case you just need to sit it out. I was keen to investigate as I was late 30s by then and had a niggling feeling that something wasn't right.

Sorry for hijacking your thread OP! I did consider acupuncture when my period was missing but then got my diagnosis and treatment plan. Good luck and hope it works for you :)
