Hey mumsnet. I’m trying to conceive for the first time so this is all new too me. I came off the pill 6 months ago and have started ovulating again but my periods are all over the place, they started out 2 months apart and I’ve recently just had another one with only a 19 day gap. Is this normal? It’s proving very hard to tell if and when I’m ovulating!

Are you using ovulation predictors to find out when you’re ovulating? Also your periods should be between 21 and 35 days on average and same length if they aren’t see your doctor as you could have PCOS and may need help conceiving.

My periods were very irregular after coming off the pill (and bit irregular before too). The month I concieved was the one I stopped worrying about it... just make sure to DTD every other day/every 2 days and forget about trying to "catch" ovulation as it's very hard with irregular periods!!

My cycles were 42 days, 35 days, 30 days and 39 days until the cycle I concieved (which would have been 40-42). Remember that each month even if you have sex at the right time there's only a 25% chance of conceiving so lots of luck involved. Best of luck and FX you get your BFP soon :)

It took a year for mine to stop being between 19-40 days apart after I came off the pill. Now they're 26-28 days. It can take longer than you'd expect for the pill to stop affecting your cycles.

Thank you ladies, it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one. I didn’t really know how long it was suppose to take (lots of websites say weigh in 3 months cycles should be back to normal). I’ll see how the next few months ago, I’m hoping that the sudden decrease in cycle is a sign things are returning to normal 🤞🏽
