Hi I'm new here and need someone to throw a little advice my way as I have no idea where I stand with it all and slowly losing my mind. (Sorry if this is lengthy and TMI!)

At 26 years old I decided to have my Implanon removed on the 27th September due to the fact me and my partner decided we would let nature take it's course, when the time is right. I have had irregular periods throughout having the Implanon, but the last 4 month my cycle was every 31-32 days around the 30th of each month. 2 days after having my implant removed, the 29th, I had my period, which lasted around 5 days.

Me and partner have had sex multiple times (3-4 times a week) unprotected. Around a week ago I started feeling very unusual, mainly a horrible taste in my mouth and dizziness. Short of breath and slight chest tightness. Followed shortly by an overwhelming feeling of nausea throughout the day on and off. The thought of food going near my mouth made me want to gip, and when I did eat, I could rarely keep it down. I then became extremely bloated and felt cramps in my lower abdominal area which gradually become more frequent. I also felt really hot, which is very unlike me, i'm always freezing!

I decided to do a test on the Friday - which was the 26th - negative.

Sunday evening I felt sharp pains in one side, but nothing major, still accompanied by the cramps in my lower tummy. Monday came around and the cramps/sharp pain seemed to have taken another level and became worse, but nothing I couldn't handle - at this point it might be worth me pointing out I had have no bleeding or spotting. I became worried when I was feeling twinges and what felt like pulling and tugging to the point it was bothering me. I called the clinic to see if they had a walk in service, which they didn't but I explained my symptoms. She immediately told me to go to our walk in centre (which is also now our A & E department.) They saw me almost immediately, had my blood pressure, temperature and did a urine test was taken.

I then went in to see a doctor, explained my symptoms and she had a feel of my tummy. She looked at my results and said my temperature was high and blood pressure low which was interesting and said "It looked like I was definitely brewing something." My urine test showed a very slight infection but explained it was nothing that would cause me cramping or pain. She sent me for a pregnancy blood test and wanted to rule out a Ectopic Pregnancy or Ovarian Cysts.

The nurse called me into the room for my blood results which showed 'all clear.' She said she expected to see much higher HCG levels if I had ovulated 14 days ago - but didn't actually give me a HCG level figure. I asked what was actually causing my pain and cramping - she sad it may be period cramps or a bout of IBS (something i've never had.) I then accepted this and asked, I'm definitely not pregnant? She then told me I had to await my period in the next few days (which hasn't shown!) if I don't have a period in the next two weeks and symptoms persist, I then need to speak to my GP, ask for another blood test and a ultrasound - she then sent me on my way.

My symptoms have persisted. Low sex drive (unlike me!) Although the evening of my hospital visit, I had no sharp pains, and since this point it's mainly been a pulling dull pain in my lower tummy and a dull lower back ache. Me and my partner DTD that evening also and I had the weirdest sensation, almost like I was slightly sore and nothing was really happening down there (also unlike me!)

Yesterday and today I have increased discharge - thin and white. I tried to feel my cervix to understand what was happening a little better, feels very soft and tender. Appetite still pretty much non existent and all of a sudden this afternoon a sex drive surge!

I'm wondering what I should do, whether there is a possibility I am pregnant and when I should test if AF doesn't arrive? I don't think I can hold 2 weeks!

Has anyone ever experienced similar? Negative blood results that have turned out false?

I'm a bit confused because HCG levels at any marker would mean pregnant ? Or am I confused? I would get some first response tests and do a first morning urine in plastic cup and dip it, after having my implant removed I had my period like you 5 day and was pregnant 9 days after ovulation x

Hi thanks for the reply!

Exactly my thoughts!!! I wish i'd have asked what the HCG level actually was because I was under the impression you only produce this once you have conceived!

Do you know when you ovulated? I have just been and bought a ovulation test along with some inexpensive pregnancy tests. Main reason being (sorry, TTC!) But my cervical mucas is very stretchy, clear like egg whites and my cervix is high up.

Just done both tests - Negative Ovulation, Negative Pregnancy Test!!

Main symptom today has been lower backache and extremely tired x

@wildfl0wer92 i just knew I was pregnant, ovulated New Year's Eve took the test 9th December (first response) and had a faint line. Tesco and home bargains tests showed nothing the day before or the day of, only first response, clear blue also said negative for another 5 days for me xx

namechange9681 · 01/11/2018 18:28

I also only tested in the morning z

Could the intense pain have been ovulation??

Unfortunately, coming off bc can play absolute havoc with your body and all sorts of strange things happen in terms of symptoms...

It's all just a waiting game.

wildfl0wer92 · 01/11/2018 19:41

Thanks for your replies!

I just feel so bloated and off at the minute. Lower back is a dull ache and i'm having weird twinges and pulling in my stomach. I do have a digital clear blue, but don't want to waste it. I think I may wait now the remaining 10 days like the nurse suggested and if AF doesn't show, symptoms are still there and I still have BFN then i'll call my GP.

I did think it may have been ovulation pain but I had it for around 7 days up until this morning, and it sort of switched to a dull back and slight pelvis ache x

Just a quick update -

I'm currently 2 weeks late. No sign of AF, took a cheap hpt this morning, still negative. Still getting random cramping low down and bottom of my back.

I've called the doctors and booked an appointment but the earliest they can fit me in is next Monday! Anxious wait to see what's going on. I have no idea what to think at the minute, it's just so frustrating.

Hi,

Don't know if this helps but you said you recently stopped taking contraception. When I stopped taking mine, I was really ill for a good six months. Almost like withdrawal, I had been on the same pill for 11 years solid and my periods come back all over the place longest being 50 days. I was feeling sick, shivers, tender breast, tingling hands and feet...every symptom I had it. I think it takes your body a while to adjust to something you just stop. I started taking seven seas trying for a baby vitamins after 6 months of coming of the pill and I feel so much better and have regular periods. Hope this helps. Give your body a bit of time to settle and get some vitamins in you xx

If you're getting negative pregnancy tests then your symptoms are not caused by pregnancy. High levels of hCG cause pregnancy symptoms.

You had an infection which might still be ongoing and IBS bouts are quite common, especially after a change like going off contraception.

It can take months for things to go back to normal after contraception, so since you're letting nature take its course and not actively TTC, just be patient. Each month you have 20% chance of conceiving if you have sex at the right time, so it may take a few months. This number is actually lower the first few months after coming off hormonal contraception, but it has no long term effects. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi Artemis2!

Thanks for your advice. I've had cramps on and off and weird twinges still. This morning (sorry ttc) I wiped and had very watery pink blood. Throughout today when I have wiped I've had it's been very pink in colour and very little of it (not enough for a tampon) i'm having mild cramping still.

Could this be AF? I have a doctors appointment for Monday.

It could be the beginning of AF...how late are you? I guess you wouldn't know for sure having come off contraception recently?

If your pain gets bad, get to AE. If you had an ectopic, it may not come up on a pregnancy test. Usually ruptures between 6-12 weeks depending on location. But rest reassured this is rare so more likely to be your period!

artemis2 · 15/11/2018 17:32

Btw, regarding your point about HCG...a normal not pregnant level is very low (but we still have some)

Interesting read here :) americanpregnancy.org/while-pregnant/hcg-levels/
