Spotting for 5 days before period

Just wondered if anyone has been in a similar position and if you found out the reason. It took us two years to conceive DD my cycles were very irregular and I did use to regularly spot before periods. The doctor wouldn't refer me as they said I have be ttc for at least two years.
Now hoping to start ttc again, however, I'm convinced something is not right. I am spotting 5/6 days before my period starts and my cycles are becoming longer. I'm not on any form of contraception but definitely not pregnant.
I feel I get no where with the doctors as they don't seem to know much and won't refer me.

I started spotting before my periods. Accupuncture helped this straight away. I also noticed change in diet also sorted it out.

I usually spot for 1-2 days before but last month I spotted for about 4 days. Had half a day of weird jelly-like blood and then back to spotting again. Every doctor I’ve spoken to about my odd periods isn’t interested and just keeps telling me that as long as they’re regular then they’re fine. Sorry, no advice, I just know how frustrating it is to not get any answers

Have you been tested for PCOS? Spotting can usually a sign of lower progesterone.

Hi there OP,

We hope you don't mind - as you're a bit unsure at the moment, we're going to move this to Conception now.

I had this for years. Have you tried months without ttc, does it still happen? You can def try cutting down (out if possible) on sugar and any junk food which may help. If you temp your cycles and go to an acupuncturist they will give advice about natural conception. It turned out I had a structural problem with my uterus solved by surgery that was contributing but if you’ve had a child already seems unlikely that’s an issue for you?

I’m convinced my spotting was the start of implantation bleeding that just miscarried into a period

Nikkitysplit · 31/10/2018 15:41

I never had spotting before but have had it consistently for the last 6 months or so always 2/3 days before I start my period. I’m going to the doctors about it next week to check if there is anything wrong or whether it is normal.

MonkeyToucher · 31/10/2018 15:48

Apparently it can indicate low progesterone, which is needed to sustain a pregnancy. I’d definitely try and get this checked by your Dr

Thanks everyone I've booked an another appointment with the doctor as I have read about things like low progesterone. Think I need to be more assertive and specially ask for tests. It's a new doctor so hoping she will have a different perspective than my other.
Also think I need to improve my diet as I haven't been eating aswell recently so maybe there is a link.

I know this is an old post but in case this is seen @footballagain3 what was the outcome of your spotting? I have the same issue every month, we have been trying to conceive for for 8 months now. The doctor didn't seem to concerned about the spotting but I think it's something to do with that. Thanks x

footballagain3 · 10/02/2021 04:56

Hi @Peony20 I never did get anywhere with the doctors. One even said if I want to stop spotting I should go on the pill Hmm. They never seem to understand I wanted to understand the cause of it not necessarily to stop it from happening.
On a more positive note I got pregnant March 2019 so it did not stop me conceiving again.
Now my periods are back I am still regularly spotting again before them. I have definitely noticed the spotting is worse when I am stressed.
Hope you conceive soon or at least get some answers/the spotting looking into Smile
