High HCG after a medical termination

Hi all, 3 and a half weeks ago I had a medical termination due to fetal abnormality at 17 weeks and 3 days 😢
I stopped bleeding after 2 weeks and I started testing my ovulation as we would like to try again as soon as we can.
Ever since I began testing I’ve been getting faint lines on my OPK strips. I’ve been testing twice a day. Once at about 11:30am and again about 18:30.
I decided to do a pregnancy test last night to see if I still had HCG in my system. I got a very strong positive test so my levels of HCG are obviously still quite high.
I just wondered if you could still ovulate with high levels of HCG?
I was thinking the OPK have been strong because of the HCG but then yesterday and today I’ve had CM so thought maybe I could be ovulating if it’s even possible?
I’ve seen some posts on here where woman have got blood tests to test their HCG levels. Do you have that done by your GP? No one offered us that testing so if possible I’d like to have it tested so we’d know for sure what is happening.

Sorry for your loss @laurenr83

If you still have enough pregnancy hormone to make a test positive, you won't be ovulating yet. It could be the O test is picking up the HCG?

I would give it a few days or week and retest with a pregnancy test. The line should be fading.

I had a TFMR at 24 weeks in April and took about 5 weeks for first AF but i think was about 2 months before i ovulated. Good luck TTC x

Sorry for your loss @Laurenr83.
I’ve read somewhere that it can take up to 4 weeks for the hcg to get out of your system depending on how far along you were at the time of tfmr.
I had a medical tfmr at 16+1 and I did a pregnancy test after 3 weeks and it was negative.
I’ve also read that if you have any retained products ie bits of placenta you will get a positive pregnancy test so keep testing over the next few weeks to see if the test becomes negative.
Hope this helps xx

Thank you for your replies. Sorry to hear about your loses too. You don’t realise how many women go through this until it happens to you.
I think your right I need to wait until I get my AF and then I can start tracking my ovulation otherwise now I’m just guessing what’s happening. I’ve never wanted my AF so bad lol
I did have a scan after my TFMR as I had bad cramps and they said nothing was retained so that’s good.
I just need to be patient. It’s so weird getting such a strong positive on the pregnancy test but wishing so much it was negative 😢
I’m sure i’ll get there in the end and we we will have our rainbow baby
Thank you xx

@laurenr83 so sorry for your loss.

It can take an age for hcg to leave your system. Mine took about 5 weeks after MC at 8 weeks. In the end I got the GP to send me for blood tests a few days apart to check it went down . It took a bit of badgering and didn’t change anything but it helped me to know where I was. It is very strange hoping for a negative test.

Thank you both 🤞🏻 It will happen for us too. Congratulations on your rainbow baby 39suzy 😊
I’ll go GP if it’s still positive after 5 weeks
Thank you xx
