To wonder WTH is wrong with me?

looking for some advice. I’m 36 and have recently started having irregular periods and started getting chin hair :( I thought this was just part of getting older and maybe perimenopause, but my period is now 2 weeks late, I’m tired all the time and have a horrible peppery, sometimes metally taste in my mouth all the time. I’ve taken 2 pregnancy tests, a week apart, both of which are negative.
Does anyone have any experience of these symptoms and it not been pregnancy? Could it be menopause or PCOS? Some sort of hormone imbalance? I’m also very overweight, but my weight has been steady for a few years.
I do have a drs appointment booked, but there aren’t any available for a couple of weeks and I am starting to get worried that there’s something really wrong with me!

Have you got a woman’s clinic near you that can see you earlier?

Ninoo25 · 16/10/2018 14:05

No, it’s been closed down unfortunately

Give the nhs direct number a call and explain your symptoms they might be able to give you some advice over the phone. It sounds like you need to get your bloods done to find out what’s happening

Hidillyho · 16/10/2018 18:16

I would see your GP to request blood tests to see if they can see what’s happening with your hormones

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 10:21

Ok so I managed to get a cancellation appointment yesterday morning. They told me that I’m most probably pregnant and need to do another pregnancy test in the morning with first urine. They said if that cake up negative to wait until I’ve missed another 2 periods and then they’d do tests. I did another test at 7am and it came up negative, then an hour later there was a faint line, does this mean it’s positive or is it just because more time has passed? Also I got up for a wee at 3am, so don’t know if 7am was technically my first wee?

Outside the time frame means negative, but given your other symptoms I think I'd try a pink dye test.

Anything on a four hour hold should be ok.

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 10:24

Sorry but what do you mean anything on a four hour hold should be ok?

Try a pink dye early response test - Superdrug ones are good. They're more sensitive so might give a clearer result.

Stargirl90 · 19/10/2018 10:33

4 hour hold means don't have a wee for 4 hours then try taking a test. First response are the best. Good luck

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 10:38

Ah ok. I’ll get first response and make sure I don’t wee for 4 hours then (that’ll probably have t be overnight tbh!)

I wouldn't be able to wait if I was you!

Celestia26 · 19/10/2018 11:03

I had a similar test result to yours and was pregnant. Clear Blue are excellent for early testing and will give a clear Pregnant/Not Pregnant result without having to decifer lines! Good luck x

MrsRubyMonday · 19/10/2018 11:57

I have very similar symptoms, missing periods and then periods lasting 60-90 days at a time, increased facial hair, lots of headaches and weird taste. There's absolutely no chance I could be pregnant, even ignoring the fact that it's been going on for two years now. My weight is also high but has been stable for a long time, and if anything I've lost a couple of stone recently. I've every blood test and scan under the sun, they kept saying it was PCOS but then tests come back clear, they don't believe it so retest, still nothing. Scans show the occasional small cyst but nothing major. Saw a specialist recently who said as all tests were clear they were just putting it down as one of those things and wouldn't be investigating any further. They gave me tablets to regulate my period, that's about it.

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 12:26

MrsRubyMonday I suspect what’s wrong with me is probably similar to you as I just don’t feel pregnant like I did when pregnant with my 2 DDs. I just wish I could have an answer straight away though, as it seems so unnatural to me not to have my period that the first thing I do is panic that I’m pregnant and then start to worry what else it could be when the tests come up negative. We’re not trying for another baby, but we’d be happy to have another, especially after worrying myself silly thinking that I was going through the menopause!

Ninoo25 · 19/10/2018 13:04

Ok have just been back to bathroom and line is getting darker, but it’s obviously well past the time frame for the test now, so maybe it’s just what happens to the test as it starts to dry out or something? Probably time to throw the stick with wee on away now 😳

To be clear this is my test from 7am, not a new one

OP posts:
TittyFahLaEtcetera · 19/10/2018 13:12

Yes OP, that could be an evaporation line. Best to use an early response one. Good luck! X

AlphaBravo · 19/10/2018 13:19

I've never seen an Evap line that strong on a test OP. Go and buy a digital or a FR Rapid Result test from superdrug.

I would say you are pregnant tbh from those lines and request a HCG blood beta from your GP over the phone. They can't really refuse you as tests are proving unreliable.

CaptSkippy · 19/10/2018 13:20

Did I understand this correctly in that they won't test you for another two months if this tests turns out to be negative? Surely if there is a risk of pregnacy they should test you right away so you could still have an abortion if you want?

Funnyface1 · 19/10/2018 13:22

I've never seen a test do that unless it was positive. Go get a superdrug test or clear blue digital.

Loyaultemelie · 19/10/2018 13:24

Ummmm that's very strong for an evap. I would definitely be getting another type

username1724 · 19/10/2018 13:29

Superdrug early response pink dye ones are the most accurate. That could either be evap or positive, I had a similar experience and it turned out to be evap. Blue dye, especially clear blue I found are the worst for evap lines.

BobbinstickThundercats · 19/10/2018 13:29

That is a very strong evap, I don't think I'd be able to wait in your situation, I'd be straight out for a two pack of clear blue digitals (one for now, be for first wee tomorrow). Thinking of you OP, I hope things are clearer soon.
