My first post, hi Smile. Hoping this is the right place.

Our story:

I’m 35, DH is 39. Started trying to conceive Jan 2017, fell pregnant October. Kept it a Secret until Christmas Day when I told DH... then had a miscarriage at 10 weeks in January this year. Painful, horrible, really sad, knocked us for six really.

We’ve been trying unsuccessfully ever since. We’ve just had blood and semen tests done, all came back ‘normal’, whatever that means...

Not really sure where this leaves us, I’m feeling like I’m running out of time and GP not very helpful!

The only thing I can think is that before I fell pregnant last time I had just lost a stone on Slimming World. Has anybody else lost weight and found that this has helped when conceive? I went back to SW today, very depressing but necessary.

Thanks for listening!

I've read the ideal bmi for conception is 21-23. Many women find fertility improved even with a 5% of body weight loss.

Fat stores oestrogen which can then be released at the 'wrong' time of the cycle thus messing with fertility.

That doesn't mean all obese women will struggle to conceive (or overweight women), just that they are slightly more statistically likely to.

I lost a stone and a half fairly quickly just before I conceived my daughter. Obviously, I’ll never know for sure how much it helped BUT I’d been temping for around 6 months and had never managed to pin down ovulation at all. I do believe it helped and so I’m currently dieting and exercising to try to lose a similar amount again.
