Ok I've been having cycles withan lp of 9 days. On my previous progesterone test taken mid luteal phase so 4 days after ov'ing my progesterone level was 26. Got referred and the gynae prescribed clomid but only to take it if this months progesterone was also under 30. Had a blood test on monday this week (5 days after ov'ing) and my prog level was 39!!!! Obviously over the moon as it confirms normal ovulation - do you think I should now expect a normal length luteal phase this cycle or could it still be a short one? Please help

Update looks like it's a short one as I'm 9 days past ovulation and I'm cramping and spotting. Tempted to take the clomid anyway as I've read it's very successful at correcting a short luteal phase. Any advice?

I would speak to your gynae before taking the clomid (as in your posting he seems to say only take it if the progesterone level is under 30).
Would not take it without you being given the okay by this person to do so. Its usually taken between days 2 and 6 of a cycle.

Does this person feel that a short luteal phase is indeed the issue here?.

He may want you to have another blood test to measure progesterone done next month.

I wouldnt take clomid with out be monitored it can cause hyperstimulation and thin out the lining of your womb. So you need regular scans.

Thanks for your advice. I'm so fed up because I've been monitoring my cycles for the last 6 months and know that I've been ovulating and then spotting 9 days later. Everything I've read has said clomid is the best thing for dealing with a short Lp. I cant face the prospect of waiting another month as I know exactly the same thing will happen. I'm going to call the gynae on monday as I should still be able to take the clomid then if he says ok.
Your advice is so useful girls. I dont know what I'd do without MN
