Hi there il get right into it,

I am 9 weeks postpartum, I am EBF and have had unprotected sex twice with DH once when I was 6 weeks postpartum and once when I was 7 weeks postpartum,

I have done two pregnancy tests both negative, but feel like I'm pregnant my DH thinks I'm being paranoid but wanted to know if it's to soon for home tests to show,

Has anybody experienced this before

My DH said he read up that because I'm EBF It's not as easy to fall pregnant

Thankyou in advance for replies x

Too early to tell, normally tests don't show up till at-least 2 weeks normally more around 3-4 weeks x

Yes of course you could / you've had unprotected sex!

When I was discharged from hospital after giving birth both times midwives have said to use contraception as you're very fertile after giving birth. Were you not told this? That's not great if not. How about at the 6 week check, I found they asked about contraception both times I've had one?

EBF offers some protection but is by no means 100%.

sugarpuffs10 · 09/10/2018 07:16

Thankyou for your replies, I wasn't told this when I was discharged about being more fertile

I attended my 6 weeks check up at 8 weeks as the letter they had "sent" with my appointment never arrived and the next available appointment was two weeks later,

When i did go to my 6 weeks appointment I mentioned this to the nurse who has given me the pill to take for meanwhile as she said once Iv waited and done a pregnancy test in 3 weeks I can get the implant in

@albert92
Thankyou for your reply, I worked out if I was pregnant by the two dates Iv had intercourse I would be at least 4weeks pregnant, that's what makes me unsure because I feel like I am but both tests come back negative no faint line just negative xx

I guess all you can do is wait for a couple of weeks and test again then.

Is it definitely okay to keep taking the pill if you might be pregnant? I thought it wasn't recommended but I could be wrong so might be worth double checking.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 09/10/2018 07:44

Presumably you haven't had a period yet? If you're EBF your periods may take months to return and you're not fertile till that happens. Mine was over a year more than once.

sugarpuffs10 · 09/10/2018 09:42

@Isitmybathtimeyet Iv not had a period yet I stopped bleeding at 4 weeks after having my DD,

@OneForTheRoadThen I asked the nurse she said it's safe to use untill I take a test and then I can go have the implant inserted

and you're not fertile till that happens. Mine was over a year more than once.

FAKE NEWS!!!

Just because you do not have a period does not mean you can not get pregnant.

You had unprotected sex of course you could be pregnant

OneForTheRoadThen · 09/10/2018 10:53

@Isitmybathtimeyet as @Taylor22 says that's not true at all! It's why so many women find themselves pregnant unexpectedly while breast feeding.

MaverickSnoopy · 09/10/2018 11:17

There is so much misinformation out there. When I had my DD 7 years ago, the GP asked at my 6 week check whether I wanted contraception and I said yes. He then said that if I was EBF that I probably didn't need to worry about it yet. He then asked if I would mind getting pregnant and I said yes, so he prescribed the pill to be on the safe side. Luckily I already knew I needed contraception. The mind boggles.

OP, yes you could be pregnant. Follow the nurses advice. How exactly do you "feel" pregnant?

sugarpuffs10 · 09/10/2018 12:25

@MaverickSnoopy the nurse said to take a test in 3 weeks, 1 week has gone by I will wait another two weeks,

The reason I feel pregnant is I keep needing a wee, body aching feeling nausea and dizzy spells that's how I felt when I fell pregnant with DD

My DH says he doesn't think I am and thinks I'm being paranoid because he said a test would have had a faint line but the two tests Iv done are negative

Sorry, I was typing too early in the day. Of course you can get pregnant before your period comes back as you may well ovulate before you have your first period. I meant that you shouldn't take an absence of a period as a sign of anything (if you were), but also that, and I should have put this a different way, that many women who EBF aren't fertile for quite a while so stories of hyper fertility shouldn't scare you too much. In order for breastfeeding to offer even some contraceptive protection you need to be feeding very regularly round the clock, but at 6 weeks if you EBF you probably are. So don't have unprotected sex if pregnancy is not what you want, but you're unlikely to be so super fertile that you defeat contraception.

BeautifulBlue · 09/10/2018 12:54

I met a woman at baby group the other day, she had a 14 month old & a 3 month old which means she got pregnant EIGHT WEEKS after giving birth - she was EBF. Poor thing. It makes me womb shudder. So yes it's entirely possible, but there is some truth to breastfeeding delaying the return of your fertility. But not in everyone's case, clearly as this woman proved!

Isitmybathtimeyet · 09/10/2018 13:51

Yes, some women have very determined reproductive systems indeed.

sugarpuffs10 · 09/10/2018 15:19

@Isitmybathtimeyet Thankyou for your reply hun, I will wait for two more weeks to take another test,

Thankyou all for your replies I will have to wait and see but DH is so sure I'm not pregnant as he believes if I was I would be at lest 4 weeks by now and it would have shown in a test I used a pink dye test too and was 100% negative no faint line

With my DD I got a strong positive test at 4 weeks and 6 days which makes me think if I was I would have had a faint line

Maybe it's all in my head another two weeks wait and then I can put my mind at ease
