Conception after pill

I’m 26 and I’ve been on the pill for 5 years now, I took the last pill in my packet on the 15/9 with the hope to start trying for a baby December/January time. Is this advisable to come off the pill early? Am I still likely to ovulate straight after stopping the pill? Also, has anyone got advice on how to prepare to conceive? Thank you!

I was on the implant for 5 years got it removed in mid November, by Jan 9th I had a positive pregnancy test, she's 2 now and was due on 16th September.... we used boots his and hers conceive vitamins, conceive plus and a period tracker app that 'told me' when i ovulated. Even though my dating scan told me different. We will be using the same method after Christmas I'm getting my implant removed in Dec this time though! Good luck Wink

It really depends on the individual as it can take up to 12 months for your body to sort itself out. I’d definitely come off now.

@Chanel05 that's what my Nurse told me !! Hence why I got it out straight away, wasn't planning a baby for at least 6-12 months!!

Hi, not sure if this is much help to you but I stopped taking my pill at the end of August after 9 years of constant use. I had my withdrawal bleed on 2nd September but had been told to be prepared for no AF for a few months/things being very irregular due to the amount of time I’d been on the pill. Surprisingly, AF is here (came on on CD 34) which is only a few days out from what “normal” used to be for me pre pill. I’m plesantly surprised and hopeful. I’ve purchased some ovulation sticks to use this month, so I’ll update you as to whether I end up ovulating this month.

Hi OP. I came off the pill at the start of June after 10 years. Since then, my AF was on day 29, then it was 6 weeks (2 weeks late), and that's all I've had since I got pregnant this month. Four months after coming off the pill.

Yes I'd definitely stop it now to give your body time to settle, and start tracking your cycles! If you don't want it to happen before the end of the year I'd either about dtd around fertile days or use condoms, it can take a few months but obviously it can happen quicker!

My first baby was unplanned, conceived after missing a few pills .
My second was planned and conceived first month trying, I'd only been off the pill for about a month before hand. It was a mini pill, not sure if that makes a difference

Hi
I was the same as you; came off the pill had one normal bleed from this in early December as with every pill free week and that was it...little boy is now 2 😂 so just be aware it can happen straight away! Good luck x

One of the most fertile times is immediately after you stop the pill, same hormones use in veterinary medicine as method of inducing ovulation.
Large numbers of female vets use this as a predictable way of getting pregnant.

However, medical profession are not keen as it doesn't give a reliable LMP for calculation purposes.

Thank you very much, this all helps! I feel I am just waiting for my period! Also feeling nervous about falling pregnant. Lots of mixed emotions!

Hello, I am in the same position as you! I came of my pill mid September after 17 years on it! I had a withdrawel bleed and am not waiting for AF. I've been having some period like pains the last few days so fingers crossed it get my period soon! I am also hoping to start trying in January and wanted to have a few months to get my cycle regulated.

I conceived on the pill! If you don't want to conceive until the new year make sure you use contraception. (In my case I had food poisoning/too much drink at a wedding, took precautions for the rest of the month but was too late)

MaryZM · 11/10/2018 11:11

Still no sign of AF, although have been feeling quite emotional and angry with poor DH so it may well be on its way! Good luck @Bonjour1234!
