Ovulation sticks vs a fertility app

I've been trying to conceive our second child for almost a year now and after a 42 day cycle last month and being convinced this was it I think I need to ditch the app and just go with listening to my body as well as using ovulation sticks? Anyone else feel the same and/or have found this a better way of doing things?

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions but I would like to know if anyone else has so following this thread!

Kescilly · 04/10/2018 16:42

I don't think apps are useful unless you have a very regular cycle and have confirmed when you ovulate a few times.

The sticks will tell at least tell you when you have your LH surge, and ovulation usually follows soon after. Unfortunately even the sticks aren't a guarantee that you are ovulating.

If it's feasible, the best thing to do is probably to ditch all of it and just have regular sex every other day.

I tried an app and gave up eventually. Used ovulation sticks once and got pregnant straight away. Hope you are as lucky as we were!

mommybear1 · 04/10/2018 19:08

Hi yes the app I always found inaccurate go with your body (CM signs) and use ovulation sticks I've found it best some months Ive ovulated at 10 days others 17.

wombatron · 04/10/2018 19:09

Any recommendations for ovulation sticks? The ones on amazon have very mixed reviews. Could do without spending a fortune each month on the clearblue ones!

Kescilly · 04/10/2018 21:21

I’m no help there, I spent a lot of money on the Clear Blue Monitor and sticks!

BLS1983 · 04/10/2018 22:46

@wombatron think I'm going go use these to begin with x

@BLS1983 @wombatron yes these are the ones I use and find them good - I would say make sure you don't use FMU and test twice a day say 3pm and 8pm to get your best "capture" of the result. Feel free to PM with any questions- good luck!

ReginaPhalange89 · 05/10/2018 15:43

If you're only going by an app there's a huge chance you're missing your fertile window as the app just guesses ! Definitely get some ovulation sticks. I use sticks but also put the info into my app to keep track. I got pregnant first cycle this way with baby #2 ! Currently first month ttc baby 3 so hoping it works for me again this time !

wombatron · 06/10/2018 20:30

So I bought the ones from amazon and they arrived today. I use the Glow app and it says I'm due to ovulate in 3 days, the tests came as positive - could it be that these are just correct or has anyone had false positives?

HalloumiGus · 06/10/2018 20:47

I would trust the sticks over the app tbh. I used sticks and found out that I ovulate quite late in my cycle.

ReginaPhalange89 · 06/10/2018 21:16

I would trust the sticks too. If you enter your data to the app it should update your fertile days too ?

Make sure you're definitely reading the sticks right too, there will be two lines on multiple days but a positive is only when the test line is the same as or darker than the control line .

wombatron · 08/10/2018 14:29

Yes, I think the app is off slightly. Definitely positive Saturday, but the lines were the same so I think I just missed the window, but negative yesterday. Thanks for the recommend!

Mummyh2016 · 08/10/2018 14:32

The apps just guesses whereas the sticks actually tell you when you’re ovulating. When I got pregnant I was fertile according to the app around a week before the sticks showed Hmm

BLS1983 · 09/10/2018 17:50

@Mummyh2016
Yes I think i am the same. Having said that I think my last 42 day cycle has thrown things off as finished af on Sunday and now have EWCM. Oh well bd tonight it is :-) xxx

I've been using Flo and Clue to track but I'm so irregular (apart from the last 3 months) so I'm thinking that OPKs may be better to use as well! If AF comes in two weeks (I think I may have missed my O date 😫) then I'll order a OPK pack online!

Chanel05 · 10/10/2018 07:02

I used opks and app for three months the opks really pinpointed my cycle well, however, even when you dtd in fertile window it’s not always a success. Cycle 4 and I’m ditching the opks this month and just going to dtd every other day from cycle 12 to avoid the stress factor.

BLS1983 · 13/10/2018 21:57

Evening ladies
Here's to ditching the app this month. Ovulation sticks sticks only for me! Good luck to everyone for a bfp this month xx

I used an ovulation app when trying to get pregnant and it was totally wrong for me. I also used OPKS around the time I 'should' be ovulating but they were never positive. I say listen to your body and go with the flow for a couple of months 😊

BLS1983 · 18/10/2018 08:47

@Unicorn234 app says I should ovulate it two days and opk still negative. I am much more relaxed this month though so that's something x

BLS1983 · 18/10/2018 12:26

Well I was remaining calm and not thinking about it and now I appear to have something that resembles implantation bleeding. Never had it before. Has anyone ever had this around 11 days after their period and been pregnant!?

OP posts:
Unicorn234 · 18/10/2018 18:28

@BLS1983 I wish you all the best hun, I've got my fingers crossed for you 😊
I've never experienced the implantation bleeding so maybe this might be your month 😍
Tbh tho hun don't rely too much on the opk sticks and the ovulation sticks as I fell pregnant right after my period so it was just luck that I fell pregnant xx

BLS1983 · 22/10/2018 17:38

Hi @Unicorn234 . Thanks for your well wishes 😘. I've been googling today and have read is possible to fall only a few days after your period. I also logged EWCM then too. I thought it could be ovulation spotting but that should apparently only last as long as you ovulate so a couple of days. This has been going on since Thursday. Thursday also ties in with the day bracket they say implantation can occur since ovulation. Plus I have neg ovulation tests lol. My head is in a spin but I've promised myself not to speak to hubby about it this month as he was more upset than I realised last month after the 42 day cycle. Xx

OP posts:
wombatron · 23/10/2018 22:52

Fingers crossed for you. I've had this then had AF turn up afterwards. Let us know how you get on!

BLS1983 · 24/10/2018 07:39

Will do @wombatron. Like with you af will probably turn up for me too like it has done the last 11 months 🙄
