38yo, AF 2 weeks late, symptoms but no BFP?!

So we are not currently TTC - we have 2DC 6 and 4 and had decided to stop there. I hadn't gone back on the pill as it sends me a bit crazy and DH is due to get the snip later this year. We haven't been DTD v frequently but did while away on holiday (03/09) - we used protection and there was no concern at the time that this had failed. However I have since gained 5lb, had a permanent stuffy nose, v bloated, insomnia and had pinky spotting on Monday. My last AF was 19th August and tomorrow AF will be 2 weeks late. I POAS yesterday and today (having suddenly realised on Wed eve that I was late!) and both BFN! Before we conceived our eldest I had an MMC not diagnosed until my 12 week scan. I'm normally very regular with AF coming within 1-2 days of it being due. I just want to know what's going on...should I go to the docs? Will they just tell me to keep waiting? All my clothes are too tight and I'm exhausted from being awake loads in the night. Whilst a 3rd DC wasn't part of the plan we will embrace it happily (even if a little freaked at the change to everything lol!) but the limbo is not a happy place at the moment! Anyone had similar or got any helpful words of advice!?

I think if you are already late then you would most likely get a positive by now if you were pregnant. I would think perhaps it is the start of changes leading up to the menopause. If you are worried though have a chat with your gp.

I don't think you are pregnant either. How old are you?

BlueC2 · 28/09/2018 09:55

Thanks Storm I guess that is another possibility. I think eitherway I may need to make an appointment with my GP. There's no history of early onset of menopause in the family though and I'd always assumed I was 10 years away from the start of it!

Managed to get a GP appointment at lunchtime and she thought the most likely thing was stress or a thyroid issue. She's done a blood test to rule out pregnancy as the not knowing is driving me loopy. I should get the results later this afternoon.

Blood test result was also negative which confirms not pregnant...so just the AWOL AF to contend with now! Doc thinks it's most likely linked to stress/tiredness and that my insomnia is stress related as well. Weight gain could well be linked to missing AF as could be water retention (mostly around my stomach almost making me look pregnant!). I feel so drained and exhausted but going to try and have a quiet weekend and catch up on some sleep if at all possible. Doc did also say if AF remains AWOL to go back and they will start looking at Thyroid and other possible causes...

Sorry you haven't got a clear answer as to what is going on op. I hope that things start to settle down for you soon. It's amazing what stress can do to your body, so having a restful weekend sounds like a good idea.

Still no sign of AF Confused went to my normal doc yesterday who seemed very relaxed about the whole thing (though she's not the one who feels as though she's turning into a whale she's so bloated and gained half a stone over the last two weeks!!). Said I should go back in 2 weeks if still no sign of AF and they will start testing for other stuff. In the meantime I'm getting cramps and my breasts are agony and feel very heavy and uncomfortable. Just so frustrating as I just want to be back to normal, I'd just managed to lose half a stone as well and was so pleased but now feel worse than before I started that Sad I know there's nothing I can do to speed any of this up but I do so dislike the waiting/not knowing!
