I don't know what to do. I thought the last IVF cycle I did (unsucessful) would be our last as we have no more donor sperm left, but it would appear this is not the case we could have three further attempts. I don't know what to do - IVF for our Db took a long time and 10 attempts. Has anyone out there had an IVF child after so long and then gone on for more than three attempts for the next and been sucessful. want to know if I am flogging the proverbial I am 38 in July Would love to hear from you. Thanks

I have no first hand knowledge but my DH's cousin had IVF and got pregnant at 38 years old. They were sucessful first time around this time.

They had been infertile for years and did try another set of IVF (not sure of how many attempts that time) but that sadly resulted in a late miscarriage and they stopped trying for a while.

Now they have a beautiful DD and have stopped breastfeeding early in order to try for number 2.

If you want another child (and you sound like you do) why not try the next three IVF cycles and leave it all to fate/mother nature to see if you conceive or not ?

thanks thinking I think leaving it up to nature would be the end of trying to conceive as sex is not what you call a frequent part of our life - plus its the severe male fertility problems which made us go down this route. I know I do want another child, its just that I had believed that the last attempt would be our last as we had no more donor sperm, but we have more so it took me ages to get to this point and now I feel like I am back at square one. My DB had his first taste of nursery on his own on monday and I felt awlful leaving him as he was crying and then I cried. I want him to have a sibling, i don't want him to be on his own.

It sounds like you will regret not trying more than you would regret not trying.

But saying that I have no idea how expensive, stressful and heartbreaking IVF cycles are, especially unsuccessful ones.

I think you are probably right - so we go again in october! Thanks for the insight - it helps to get another perspective.
