vit B6 - anyone else experience strange side effects

OK so started on high dose of vit B6 this cycle (200mg/day) in the hope of extending LP from the sudden 9/10 phase it has changed to in March.

BUT am having difficulty sleeping and even DH has noticed that it is definately stimulating my hormones as I am weepy at times and irritable and generally over emotional. not all the time but definately more than usual. Also I am peeing loads more - my theory on this is that the body is trying to flush the xtra vits away (well it is 10000% od RDA).

This month my OV came forward from CD18/19 to CD14 , so now I am waiting to see what happens the other side (with LP I mean).

Anyone else experienced this or other side effect??

well it will make your pee smell funny and be a brown colour but no I took the stuff for years and I didn't have any of those side effects. Good luck

thanks Suss. But is it OK to take past ovulation? I figure that that is the time I need it most, but slightly worried about affect on any potential foetuses (however that is spelt)?

NappyValley - i have the same problem as you with really short luteal phase, and Vit b6 was recommended by one of the Mnetters etc, anyway, i researched it to see any potential side effects and found that some people experience loss of feeling in their arms and legs when taken at such a high dosage! However it did say this should return when you stop taking it! Can i ask, where did you buy such a high strength from?

B6 stops me sleeping too and gives me whacky dreams! B6 stimulates the nervous system. Its water soluble but that dosage is a bit much I'd be careful about that.

I think you are only meant to take it up to ov
only tried it myself for a couple of months at much lower dose though

NappyValley · 14/06/2007 12:17

Holland and Barrett stock it in 100mg form.

I did read about possible side effects as mainly doses of over 500mg over a prolonged period. I am keeping an eye on things though.

Well today is CD9 so we shall see. I am a bit scatty about taking it so it has been more every other day. If my cycle settles down this month (as I used to have a normal LP14) then I will halve the does next month and see.

For anyone interested.

This month have dropped down to 100mg/day and am also taking Agnus Castus.

Although still not sleeping well, and initially the Agnus Castus made me feel very nausetious. but the tingly edgy feeling has gone and hormones seem more settled, although we are mid cycle.
