I am risking sounding very stupid here but here goes ?. I have been casually ttc no 2 for 5 months with no success. I got pg with no 1 at first time of trying and have to admit to being a complete novice when it comes to understanding cycles, ovulating, other signs etc. I wonder if someone very patient would be able to give the idiots guide to getting pg?! I?ve looked at various websites and just get lost in jargon and terms! My DH would go mad if he knew I was doing this as he would hate me to become such a control freak ? he never complains on the BD front but should I be doing anything in particular apart from lots of it?? I think I know when I ovulate (I could go on about various signs but maybe TMI??!) so should I be BD then or just before, during after ? HELP?! I do appreciate that some people have been trying for a lot longer than me and hope I don?t come across as insensitive but I can?t think I?m the only person who never excelled at biology and could do with some expert (but simple!) help!! Thanks in advance!

buy some ovulation prediction tests, worked first time for me.

SL do you have a regualr period - how many days is it from the 1st day of your period to the day before you come on.

I'm no expert but having been ttc for 8 months I have picked up some pointers along the way I can share.

Fio2 & Sweetheart - thanks for your replies! Think I will go for the prediction tests - do they do what they say on the tin?! I am as regular as clockwork - 28 days on the nose and I do get a sort of dragging pain 14 days in which I kind of thought was ovulation but could be wrong! Is this when an ovulation test would come in handy? See I told you I was a bit slow on this subject!!!

Silverlining - you should read through some of the TTC threads (if you have got the time). I picked up a lot of good advice and tips from these!

Fio2 · 24/08/2004 11:07

yes they do exactly what it says on the tin

SilverLining · 24/08/2004 11:14

Tessiebear - thanks - I have looked at some of the threads and thats what made me start this one! I got lost in jargan and felt that a lot of these people are far more informed than me and I would just make a fool of myself!!! Hence the idiots guide!

Fio2 - I guess I'm off to Boots this lunchtime to make the purchase then, you should get some commission!

SL, I think that for a 28 day cycle you normally oveulate at around day 12. It lasts for about 2 days and these are your most fertile days of the month.

So I guess the best advice would be count 10 days from the 1st day of your period and then spend a week giving the bunnies a run for their money

Good luck xxx

Sweetheart - thats the sort of basic advice I like and I know for sure I won't get any complaints from DH on that score!! Oooooooooooo - have just counted and we are on holiday for a week right at the magic time!!! Here goes! Thanks a lot!
