First doctors appointment on Wednesday to discuss fertility after trying for approx a year with nothing...

Any tips on what I should prepare/say/ask for?

DH had mumps as a teenager, so planning to mention that.

Also planning to ask for an STI test - we've been together 7 year, but you hear awful stories of people who've had an infection for years and never known.

Take the following information:
What your cycles are like. How long your cycle is. How many days you bleed for. What the bleed is like (heavy light spotting etc)
If your period is painful etc
How often you are DTD
You and partners diet and exercise.
How much you both drink on average a week.
Definitely mention mumps.
If you are tracking ovulation when you ovulate and how long your Lutel phase is.
If you are tracking temperature your temperature charts.
Any family history fertility problems.

Be prepared they might tell you to go away and try for longer. Although be strong and don’t let them fon you off. As a minimum you should at least be offered a blood test.

Hopefully they will be more helpful and start the process of investigating. This would mean:
STi tests for both of you
Blood test for you on certain days of your cycle to check your hormones and to check you are ovulating.

After that they then check:
Blood test for DH to check hormones
Sperm Analysis for DH to check his swimmers.

Hope this helps. Written as someone who started investigating infertility 2.5 years ago. It’s a long process!!

Wishing you luck
