Ovulation sticks - how many times a day?

Traditionally these have never shown a positive result and after using them for a while, caused me to panic, think I wasn't ovulating and went off to investigate with my GP.

Long story short, and after some hefty investigation, looks like I do / have ovulated.

I want to start using the ovulation sticks again and have read a couple of times that using them in the morning isn't very effective / could be why they turn up negative. I've also read that testing with them up to three times a day is better to capture a positive reading.

Does anyone have experience using the ovulation sticks a couple of times a day to get a reading and am I right to think this is a good thing to do?

Hi

I found this when I moved to cheap ones and was also advised not to use FMU. So I have an alarm to test at 3pm and 8pm. It's worked well in terms of detection for me for the last few months. Good luck!

Hi! I just used cheap ovulation sticks (the ones from Poundland 5 in a pack). When I thought I could be ovulating I used one in the morning and one in the afternoon/early evening around 3-5pm. He morning one was always a bit fainter but always quite a distinct line. Then come the afternoon if get my positive on them 😊 I found that if you get a strongish line in the morning you're quite likely to get an even stronger line/positive in the evening.
I'm pretty sure I ovulated when the sticks told me so as I got ewcm and ovulation pains!
Hope this helps! Xx

Thank you. Could be that I don't produce enough hormones to detect on the sticks as I have used them for a whole month and never had a positive result. Fortunately blood tests confirmed I do ovulate but just not ever had a positive result on the OPK sticks

3 times a day from cd10 - 10am, 2pm then 6pm.

My LH surge was short, so I’d have a negative in the morning, positive in the afternoon the negative again in the evening.
It was only when I switched from 2 to 3 times a day I realised this.

That's really helpful thank you - I will start doing this.

I do them twice a day 2pm and 7/8pm

I just use the cheap ones from eBay, pack of 40/50 for a few quid !

I was using them about lunch time and was never getting a positive. The month I conceived dd2 I used about 4 a day at different times and got my positive opk late afternoon. The next test (the following day) came back negative so would have missed my surge had I not tested at different times.
