Advice on TTC after coming off pill

Hello all

I'm new here and completely understand that i haven't been trying for long but i just wanted some advice to make sure all was okay and whether i need to action anything and whether i was normal! So any advice would be really appreciated.

I'm 31 and came off the pill in May. I've only had 2 AF since this date (June & August) so have no idea on my cycle. I'm over a month since my last AF. I keep reading articles online and I would have expected my periods to return to normal after 4 months. Is this normal or something to be concerned about?

It's very difficult to know when is the best time to try for a baby as i have no idea on my cycle. What can i do to help? Would ovulation tests be useful or should i wait until I'm in a routine? Is it too early to see the doctors yet?

It's all confusing!!

Too early to see the gp. It's not that unusual for cycles to go a bit bonkers for up to a year after hormonal bc.

There are loads of things you might try: agnus castus is a supplement to take to regulate cycles. You take it from af up to ovulation and some people report it helps cycles to because me regular (but everyone is individual and what works for some doesn't work for others).

To track your cycle, I'd recommend the book taking charge of your fertility. The standard for seeing when you will ovulate is tracking using opks (cheap ones off Amazon are fine to try), tracking your bbt (google it) and recording the physical signs of ov.

They say see you gp if you haven't had a period in two months or if you've been ttc for a year.

Good luck.

Hey there, you've waited 2 months so I would recommend you start trying and have sex every 2-3 days.

I went off the pill in March and waited 2 months to TTC, but my cycles were crazy! Lengths from March till now: 42, 35, 32, 39.

And at cd45 of my current one I got my BFP, so cycle length was not affecting ovulation. Just make sure you have regular sex so you can "catch" the egg and best of luck!! 😊

Ps. I tried ov tests my first month trying, but that just made things stressful and I never got a positive ov result.

It can take up to 12 months for your periods to regulate after coming off the pill.

You could use ovulation strips, but with no clue on your cycle at the moment that could end up costing quite a bit.

I tracked my cervical mucus. It’s free (yay!) and it worked for me. There’s loads of information online about it. You want to have sex when you get what’s called egg white cervical mucus but it’s the mucus returning to creamy that indicates ovulation is over. EWCM helps the sperm to swim as it creates a very hospitable environment, so sex when you experience it will really help.

My main advice though is to just enjoy this time and don’t focus too much on HAVING to have sex. Baby making is meant to be fun don’t forget! :)
