Seriously though, I find desire a very effective indicator, plus the actual ovulation pain itself

I know not all women experience that though

stretchy clear mucus, like egg white ....and if your cycle is regular ish - around day 14, with day 1 being first day of your period...

don;t know the first thing about temperature and that, but lots of ladies here do

Mucus is noticeable from day 12-15 (day 1 is first day of period). Consistency is similar to egg white, and it's clear. That's the 'clue' I used when I got pregnant with dd2. Worked first time for me.

what about when you have ewcm mixed in with the creamy stuff? whats going on there?

Some people feel it like a sharp stinging I've been told.
I normally feel something similar to period pains.

I think she means if the sperm has been hanging around (in the testes) for more than 3 days it will be less active

I doubt many men would go that long without making a new batch anyway?

apparently if your dp doesnt ejaculate 3 days before you want to conceive the sperm is virtually useless, they advise this at all the fertillity clinics. a friend of mine, who hates sex, was only having sex on the day of ovulation, once a month, she had been trying for 18 monthe before i told her this and was pregnant within 2 months.
