Anyone else find BBT really confusing? Mine seems to be all over the place, and doesn't appear match my OPK results. Does that mean I didn't ovulate after all? Last month the drop and rise was far more severe.

I measure every day before I get up. But I'm not sure how much I trust my thermometer. None of the ones I could find got particularly good reviews.

Any BBT experts got any tips? Or can you make sense of this chart?

It looks like you haven’t ovulated yet to me.

Not everyone gets the big ovulation dip but your temps would generally stay up after ovulating, and yours are still up and down.

Have you tried plotting your temps on the fertility friend app? I found that to be a lot more accurate and easier to make sense of

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 13/09/2018 13:42

I'd say your temp should of been higher for a few more days to ovulate, think they say 3 days and then perhaps a dip again.

Bloodylegoeverywhere · 13/09/2018 13:44

This is mine (only with a normal thermometer not the one with double digits after the .)

It can be super confusing at times. Have you followed best practice, like taking temperature just after waking, around same time each day?

I’d really recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler - it provides tons of info on BBT and cervical fluid charting which is the other key to really understanding when you’ve ovulated, as temperature alone can be misleading.

RMarieClaire · 13/09/2018 13:48

Thanks @TheHalfBloodPrincess @Bloodylegoeverywhere - oh no that would be so disappointing. Is BBT more reliable than OPKs then?

I used Clear-blue and it predicted my high and peak fertility days to match the ones according to Ovia perfectly, but the temperatures definitely don't match. Sigh. Might need to track CM next month too to cover all bases.

Thanks @BookWormsRule - I'll definitely get that book. I try to take my temperature around 5.30am everyday but it can be later at weekends I admit. I'm also a really restless sleeper according to my Fitbit, so wonder if that also is an issue, because my chart looks nothing like @Bloodylegoeverywhere's - so tidy!

Here's a few examples of how bonkers it can be! Happily swinging .5 or .9 midcycle

@RMarieClaire thanks, it's not giving me any idea of anything Confused it's my first month temping in years As it's only doing one digit past the decimal, I wonder if it's not showing much change.....
Interested to see how it looks over the next few months.

RMarieClaire · 15/09/2018 08:39

Just had my spike. Admittedly this was taken a little later in the morning - maybe 90 mins later than usual, so might be screwed but it's a massive jump.

If any bbt experts can estimate when I might have ovulated that would be great. We last dtd Wednesday morning (which was a day after my fertile window as I got my first peak Monday) - worried it won't be enough, but to be honest right now I'd settle for just knowing I'm ovulating

Sorry, here's the pic

Possibly the 12th or 13th. One more raised temp will confirm.

If you input your data here it will adjust your bbt to the time you normally wake up

RMarieClaire · 15/09/2018 09:19

Thanks @TheHalfBloodPrincess that site is really handy! Think DH would kill me if I set my alarm for 5.30 on a Saturday!

OP posts:
TheHalfBloodPrincess · 15/09/2018 09:45

No problem. It was a big help for me as my sleeping patterns were all over the place due to toddler ds teething so quite handy to be able to adjust when he thought 4am was a perfect wake up time!😂

🤞 you get another rose and that this is your month!

RMarieClaire · 15/09/2018 09:51

Thank you. I reran Thursday with that site too as I measured an hour later and think I probably ovulated on 13th. Although I took an opk that morning and got a big fat negative so the surge was over. Might be enough! But tbh just happy to ovulate as came off the implant in May and was worried it would take a lot longer ☺️

Hi! Anyone else trying to make sense of their BBT charts out there or is it just my chart that is so erratic. I can't even tell when I ovulated ConfusedConfused

sunshine1987 · 19/09/2018 12:55

@shressy are you taking your temperature at the same time everyday? The dots suggest you aren’t so won’t make the data very useful x

RMarieClaire · 19/09/2018 14:34

@shressy mine looks similarly bonkers. I'd say you ovulated on or around the 11th as it seems to rise after that. I reckon I must have done on 13th/14th. Hopefully former. That said I have a virus at the moment which could equally explain slightly higher temps.

Someone above sent a link to a handy adjuster if you struggle to take at same time everyday.

@shressy would say you’ve ovulated on the 13th as got three high temps after that date. Also another spike today which is a good sign too c

sunshine1987 · 19/09/2018 14:46

@shressy I’d agree though it looks like you ovulated on the 11th x

shressy · 19/09/2018 15:09

@RMarieClaire @sunshine1987 thanks ladies. I try to do my temping same time every morning. I recently switched to a different thermometer from the 8th and that I believe is a lot more accurate. The erratic temps are probably also down to my old thermometer which wasn't very good I think.

I'm hoping the sustained high temps are a good sign but looks like i ovulated very late into my cycle. How long before I can test you think. Looks like a good few weeks? I hate this wait. Fingers crossed for all us ladies TTC Smile

sunshine1987 · 19/09/2018 16:06

@shressy think it’s suggested 15 days from a positive OPK so would say 14 days from when you’ve ovulated x

sunshine1987 · 19/09/2018 16:08

Sorry @shressy that comment was for @rmaroeclaire about the second spike x

sunshine1987 · 19/09/2018 16:08

@rmarieclaire even argh, I’m having a right mare today lol x

KatBeCool · 19/09/2018 18:22

@RMarieClaire I was actually going to ask you if you sleep well but you already answered that, it could be the key your chart. If you aren't rested when you took the temp, it will be higher but should still be able to see the difference between pre- and post-ovulation.

KatBeCool · 19/09/2018 18:28

I tried www.whenmybaby.com/basalbodytemperature.php and it was off by quite a bit. This morning I took the temps twice, one during my normal time (5:30) and the other when I actually woke up. The site was off by half a degree. The difference between my temps was 0.2 of a degree.

shressy · 20/09/2018 20:11

Thank you @TheHalfBloodPrincess I used the adjuster link you shared and my temps were adjusted up by 0.2 deg. Woke up at 5am this morning where I normally take my temps an hour later Smile
