Would we be wasting time DTD now?

I know this OPK isn't positive but tonight is potentially the only night we'll be able to DTD due to work commitments. Would it be a complete waste of time to even bother trying do you think? Hate the thought of letting another month go by due to bloody work! Thanks in advance for replies.

I don't know anything about OPK but I'd just go ahead and do it, if nothing else it's still a nice thing to do!

TreasureInMyTummy · 09/09/2018 20:03

I think sperm can last up to 3 days in your body and your egg can release anytime from 12-24 hours after you detect surge ( I think that's right roughly) so you could have a chance if it's close to when you would surge xx

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 20:15

Thank guys. I'm thinking I might of got a positive OPK tomorrow so if I'm lucky I might ovulate in 48ish hours & his little spermys might last until then 🤣 Hope it's habitital in there for them! 😬 Worth a try ay...

It looks like it's soon going to be a positive.

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 20:33

@butlerswharf that's what I'm thinking. Maybe tomorrow or the next day? Might be too early... but we'll give it a go.

Definitely worth a try! I normally ovulate the day I get a positive and that looks very near to being positive!!

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 21:34

Thanks @bairnk! Will definitely give it ago...

The month I got pregnant with DS we only did the deed once on day 9. It was just due to work and him being away etc.

It makes me wonder whether these apps saying day 14 for ovulation are misleading. Of course everyone is different and each month is different but before ovulation has got to be the key. And I do realise the apps say various things but they seem to focus on ovulation day.

MajesticWhine · 09/09/2018 22:08

Yes deffo worth a go. I got pregnant from DTD on day 9 when apparently ovulating on day 14. ( I was trying to avoid pregnancy at the time)

thatawkwardsilence · 09/09/2018 22:08

Good luck, sorry my post was meant to helpful / encouraging. It's want a brag. We tried for a good while before we got our BFP

thatawkwardsilence · 09/09/2018 22:09

  • wasn't a brag

Ohhhhh WineWine

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 22:58

Thanks everyone! I'm on cycle day 15 & my app says I'll ovulate on day 21 Confused my last 3 cycles I have ovulated between 14-16 days. Think the app is still a bit all over the place due to pregnancy (app wouldn't allow me to put in I was pregnant so just appeared to have a 200+ day cycle! Then no cycles for another 200+ days due to breast feeding! The deed is done 🤣 Fingers crossed!

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 23:00

@thatawkwardsilence didn't come across as a brag at all! Thanks for sharing your experience Smile I too doubt the apps mainly due to not being able to put in a pregnancy & months of breast feeding! Maybe it'll be more accurate in another 6 months or so! But I use OPKS & watch for signs (like CM) pretty tuned in now, so hopefully itll pay off!

thatawkwardsilence · 09/09/2018 23:07

Fingers crossed. I swapped apps due to same issue as want to try for DC 2. Now using Flo instead of period diary.

My cycles were completely irregular until I recently stopped breast feeding altogether.

Beautifulblue · 09/09/2018 23:18

I use clue, just seems really basic & straight forward. May delete then re-install though to get more accurate results! How do you find the flo app? Is it free?

OneMoreWish · 10/09/2018 08:23

I use clue app too x

lennyisnuts · 10/09/2018 08:25

Sperm can actually live up to 5 days so there's a good opportunity still. When TTC I had sex ever day 5 days prior to estimated ovulation and two days during/after having EWCM. Xx

Lweji · 10/09/2018 08:31

Too late now, but for future reference.

DS was conceived from sex 3-4 days before ovulation was expected.
The best time for sex is not when ovulation occurs, it's when you have egg white mucus. And that's a few days before.

As others said, sperm easily survive for 5 days, so better count 7 for anyone not wanting children. And they have to make the trip up to the falopian tubes. So, sex before ovulation is never a waste of time.

Also, never tell your OH that you consider having sex a waste of time. He'll probably look at you as if you're mad. Wink

Lweji · 10/09/2018 08:34

Ps- sex has the same number of letters as dtd. WinkGrin

Beautifulblue · 10/09/2018 11:31

@Lweji I know these mumsnet sayings really stick even when you don't want them to 🤣 Although tbf I can't say 'should we sex' so DTD is a sorta time saver 😂😂
Oh he was knackered last night to tbh!! If we hadn't of thought there was a slight of chance of concieving we definitely would of passed, both of us 🤣
