Conception after Laparoscopy success?

Hi ladies.
I’m looking for some hope and encouragement about endometriosis mums who have conceived after laparoscopy.

I’m about to have my third laparoscopy. The first 2 were to alleiviate symptoms and this one is to hopefully increase fertility.
I’m ovulating each month as confirmed by bloods and home kits. My DH has had his swimmers tested and all is good there.
I’m 34 and been TTC for 2 years how. I have an 11 year old son from previous marriage and so does my DH.
My consultant has been brutal and said that I might get lucky and conceive after the laparoscopy but not to get my hopes up as is probably unlikely. I still want to explore all options and give it a try.
Has anyone fallen pregnant after a lap after failing to conceive? Or did it not work for you?
Any feedback or stories welcome!

See if anyone in the pregnancy thread can help. Hope you get some answers, I have a friend that has just had the same done and she is wondering the same xx

Mrstobe90 · 13/09/2018 15:58

I conceived 3 weeks after my laparoscopy but I didn't have endo, I had polyps, fibroids and cysts.
Fx for you! Good luck xx

MrsDash · 14/09/2018 14:42

I’m not much help I’m afraid but I feel your pain. I’ve just had a laparoscopy which confirmed endometriosis on my bowel and bladder. Waiting for a gynaecologist appointment to discuss possible treatment options. We’re TTC #1 and I’m 29.
Wishing you lots of luck.

I have endo -

Tried to conceive for over a year but no pregnancy. Had a laparoscopy in March and was pregnant by May. Could have been a coincidence but I believe that it was a contributory factor.

All the very best of luck.

Hello there, I had a laraproscopy in 2000 (when I was 30) for heavy endometriosis and conceived the first of my three lovely children the following year. It can definitely happen, so I hope the same thing happens for you.

MrsDash · 14/09/2018 14:57

Could I ask where you had endometriosis? Mine is bowel and bladder.

DancingDot · 14/09/2018 15:43

Mrs Dash - my endo was predominantly in my fallopian tubes. I also had a massive and some smaller cysts on my ovaries.

Makmum33 · 16/09/2018 10:09

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I think my endo is on my right ovary at the moment as it seems it’s welded to my cervix ( going by pelvic ultrasound)
Surgery is on Wednesday and I’m starting to get nervous. They are checking my tubes while they are there, I’ve heard that pushing the fluids through can improve fertility after ? Fingers crossed! And thanks for the feedback :)

I’ve had a recent laparoscopy and am also interested in any success stories of pregnancy after it.

Makmum33 · 16/09/2018 12:58

Hi Mouse, how long ago was your lap? X

Hi Makmum-I had it about 6 weeks ago. I’m trying not to think of it as a magic operation that will suddenly get me pregnant! Hard not to tho!

torthecatlady · 16/09/2018 21:41

@Makmum33 I also have endometriosis. We've been trying to conceive as well for what seems like forever.
I'm a step mother, but no biological children of my own.

We're going to give it until Christmas, but if we have no luck I'll be contemplating laparoscopy no. 2. The first was to diagnose and treat. This will be to hopefully increase fertility like yourself.

Hoping to hear some positive stories! Best of luck Smile

Makmum33 · 16/09/2018 23:09

It really is hard. I’ve heard so many mixed responses over the years, but when my consultant said not to get my hopes up it was gutting!
Best of luck to you! X

@Makmum33 I thought it was 4 years ago but just worked it out that it was actually in Spring 2013 Blush Where has the time gone?

I do however remember the morphine button and having an out of body experience BlushHmm

Also that my belly button was really sore for a couple of weeks afterwards.

24Juniper · 19/09/2018 15:22

@MrsDash Did you have any symptoms of endo in the bowel and bladder? Just been referred to a laparoscopy as HyCoSy didn't work and wonder if I might have endo on my bladder due to constant cystitis

MrsDash · 19/09/2018 15:29

Hello.
Yes that’s what prompted me to see the GP a few months ago. Sorry TMI - I had painful bowel movements during AF with no other Endo symptoms. I said we were thinking of TTC soon so came off the pill (which the gynaecologist said should reveal if it’s Endo as the pill can mask symptoms). Since coming off the pill mysteriously the bowel pain has completely gone but instead I have painful urination and a feeling similar to a UTI (urgency to go) during AF and a few days afterwards. I also getting spotting in the few days before AF - not sure for certain if this is Endo or not but probably as never had it before. Anyway the laparoscopy last week revealed I have Endo on my bowel and bladder (not on reproductive organs) which makes since my symptoms are toilet related! Hope that’s of some help. At one stage I was hoping the pain was just a recurring UTI around AF but alas not.

MrsDash · 19/09/2018 15:31

Interesting that you say due to constant cystitis. Is that something you’ve been told could be related to endometriosis?
I used have UTIs all the time a few years ago.

24Juniper · 19/09/2018 17:53

@MrsDash Interesting about your symptoms as I think my cystitis symptoms are worse when I'm on my period and blame it on the fact I use a pad! Hopefully the laparoscopy will get me some answers. At one stage I wondered if I might have bladder cancer as I couldn't even sleep at night! But I have no other endo symptoms or anything to think I would have endo

MrsDash · 19/09/2018 18:01

@24juniper Endometriosis is weird. Symptoms really vary. Apparently it’s possible to have really bad symptoms with mild endometriosis and then another person might have really bad endometriosis but be unaware as they don’t have many or even any symptoms. Best of luck with your laparoscopy!

Lemonsugar245 · 20/09/2018 07:08

So I have moderate endometriosis and have had 4 laparoscopies with an endo specailist. They don’t really know why it can affect fertility in some woman and not others. Unless it has blocked tubes etc. It could be an inflammation response. My consultant said don’t leave trying til after 30 if possible as fertility might be effected. Also sometimes a laparoscopy does help with fertility other times not. They also said make sure it’s excision not just laser as that isn’t really removing the endo.

I managed to conceive in 2 cycles I’m now about 6 weeks. It is early days I’ve had some pain which I put down to scar tissue stretching. Endo recently has shown to cause increase in certain things during pregnancy.

Makmum33 · 04/10/2018 16:18

Thank you again all for your feedback. And good luck to those trying and who have managed to conceive 🙂
So my laparoscopy showed my cervix was blocked strangely! They were trying to test my tubes and struggled to get in to look. It gives me hope that there was something as simple as that and they have fixed it now.

Unfortunately they punctured my uterus mid laparoscopy so I’ve been told to hold off for another month to ensure it’s healed properly. Fingers crossed for us all! X
