Cluelessly naive about periods

Ok so ttc #2 but not in a rush. We know we're fertile. #1 happened first try with no real planning.

Anyway, I'm still BF and periods seem to have only just started back up. Had 9 days or so of really bad cramps, noticed I had mucus so I'm guessing I was ovulating because it's the first time in 9 months I've had mucus. AF arrived 3 days ago. Seems to be the normal pattern.

Here's where I'm confused...

I'm not having cramps while I'm bleeding which I normally would do. I don't know whether your body just goes back to normal straight way after things like this because DM had periods straight off the bat after us kids and DSM had irregular ones anyway so was on the pill and doesn't remember anyway so no help.

I do know it's entirely possible I could still be pregnant because threats how it happened with my DM with me. She had a period like normal then found out soon after. So I know I still need to wait another week.

But I'm just so confused. Why are women's bodies so complicated?! 😭😭 would I even get a BFP during AF? I'm not really a fan of unprotected sex as I'm funny about sensations and textures etc so dtd makes me shudder at the end from disgust (leakages... even AF makes me shudder) I'd like this to be over asap so I don't start to resent it.

I used to get bad cramps during AF before I had kids. Since having kids I don't really suffer with them. Having a baby can change things. I also have shorter cycles (24 days instead of 28).

It's not impossible to have what appears to be AF and still be pregnant, but I doubt that's why you're cramp free and that it's more to do with just how it is now (that doesn't mean all your AF's will be cramp free from now on though).
