Hello :)

TTC child number 2, however had first child unplanned, on my own and young so this is very much first baby in the sense of trying to get pregnant and sharing journey with partner.. I CAN'T WAIT

How do ovulation tests work? Ive googled so have a scientific idea of what they do however unsure on a few things!

From which day in my cycle do i start testing?
Do they get darker the more hormone is detected like pregnancy tests? (really hoping for a boy so trying to conceive as close to ovulation as possible)

Do many people start trying and go straight for the ovulation tests or do people prefer a more natural relaxed approach!?

Hi @civicxx

I used them this month, it was my first month TTC and I got my bfp last week! I think they'r great. I used an app called flo which gave me an idea around when I'd be ovulating so I used the stick maybe 2 days before the prediction. I got my positive test a few days later than the app suggested, so I knew I would ovulate within the next day or two. FLO predicted CD15 and I ovulated on CD17, had I relied solely on the app I would have definitely done the deed at the wrong times!

Good luck! SmileSmile

I've attached a photo of what my tests looked like, the middle one was the darkest I got which was Fri, I then ovulated on the Sat, I actually felt a funny pain in my left side quite low down around my groin so I presume that's what it was!

@Sparkles1992

Oh amazing, congratulations :) thanks so much, I'm hoping we can be lucky also like you & get it right first time! What brand test did you use? Am I right in thinking the £1.99 ones are going to be just as good as the £9 clear blue ones? As essentially there just detecting a hormone? Wish we didn't have to be so strict with it a little bit though as it would be nice to just have fun trying but really hoping for a boy!

Are you going to find out what your having or have a surprise on the big day? :)

Thank you @civicxx ! We are so pleased but I'm very nervous as it's my first! I used ones from home bargains if you have one of those where u live. They were about £3 and worked perfect!

How come you are wanting a boy so badly? Do you already have a girl? I thought it was all just a 50/50 chance I didn't realise you could DTD at a specific time for a specific gender etc..

We are going to find out, I want to buy either pinks or blues! The unisex clothes aren't as cute and I don't think I could wait 🤣

Good luck! I hope they are as good for you as they were for me!! X

@sparkles1992

Oh its such an exciting time! It feels that long ago that I was pregnant & I think ill be just as nervous this time round! I think the more pregnant you get the more your nerves settle, the first few weeks I can imagie being the most nerve racking, you dont look pregnant, you cant see baby or hear heartbeat etc but from that 12 weeks scan its like wow theres a little person and all systems go! :D

Yes we have a Home Bargains however I picked some up from Boots yesterday while I was out so ill see how they turn out! :)

Yes daughter who is 8, not OH's child, although he does such a fantastic job you would never know! I think to keep our comfortable lifestyle we could only afford to have one more baby (ill be taking around 50% paycut after baby) and he really would like a boy so think he feels like this is his one shot chance haha, and I guess it would be nice to have a boy with already having a girl although im sure he will be happy either way, although outnumbered haha! :)

From partners extensive googling he found that male sperm swims quicker but dies faster, but female sperm takes longer to get there but lives longer. So in maybe a hope to sway it either way you would either have sex 2/3 days before so female was there on egg realse (as male sperm can not live that long) or as close to egg release as possible for male sperm to fertilise before female got there!

Oh yes, I dont now how people manage an entire 38/40 weeks not knowing! Although I guess its a lovely suprise on the big day I like you would like to buy pink or blue haha! Although, imagine the shopping spree youd be entilited to if you didnt find out, youd have a whole 5 months of shopping to catch up on! Wahoo! :D

Hope you are well xxx

This has been completely debunked. It was based on an incorrect assumption.
