Conceiving 5 days before ovulation, is it possible?

I’m so excited to be TTC baby no.2.
DS will be 3 at the end of November so DP and I decided just after his 2nd birthday that it would be a great time to start trying. DS came as a surprise to us so we’re still new to actively ttc.

My cycles are pretty much like clockwork and I seem to ovulate near the end of the month. I’m not using ovulation test kits at the minute, I’ve got an app on my phone which tells me when I ovulate and by monitoring cm I can tell it’s pretty accurate.

My partner has a new role in his job now and it requires him to travel every month to different cities to provide training. He will be gone for at least a week at a time and it’ll be every month for the next 5 months. Looking at the dates he’s due to be travelling it seems to fall on my most fertile days assuming my cycles will continue to be like clockwork.

this month we dtd 5 days before ovulation and there will be a couple of months where we will just about make it into the fertile window but it will be approx 5/6 days before ovulation. I’m trying not to get my hopes up and when he’s finished all this training we can continue as we have been doing.

I thought because we fell pregnant with DS quite quickly we wouldn’t have a problem conceiving quickly, but we’re 8 months in and still nothing. The thought of it being pushed back a further 5 months is a little disheartening, but I know when it does happen it’ll be worth the wait. I’m just really hoping it will be soon.

Well I'm currently pregnant having DTD 5 days before ovulation so yes I do think it is possible. However I also fell pregnant by having sex once on each previous occasion for DC 1&2.

I also think that if you've been trying for 8 months when you are ovulating that DTD 5 days before ovulation may not be helpful. Would it be worth buying some ovulation strips? What if you're not actually ovulating when you think you are? I agree it sounds pretty likely you are but might be worth exhausting all scenarios. If your dates are accurate then a "break" or playing it by ear may be helpful to you. Some people say that when they stop trying they fall pregnant. Alternatively is it an option to go and stay with DH on the day you ovulate?

When you say you ovulate towards the end of your cycle what day are we talking? Usually a woman ovulates around 14 days before her period arrives. Hence the two week wait phrase.

If you think there's a lot less time between ov and af then I would second getting some opks to check.

Thank you for your replies.
I think I will go with ovulation test strips as there’s no definitive way I can say I am on the dates the app says although I’m confident due to cervical mucus but even then I could be wrong.

sammylou1 sorry I meant the end of the month not the end of my cycle. It just so happens DPs work trips are at the end of the month too.

It probably wouldn’t be practical for me to travel to him on these dates so I’ll probably just have to wait til he’s finished but hopefully something will happen before then. I’m just hoping there’s still a chance!
