Hiya. Going for #2 (#1 is 4 in November). Have an appointment to remove coil at the end of September.

What is the best way to optimise conception? Start every other day 19 days prior to removal? Wait until after removal? If wait, how long?

Thank you x

That was meant to say 10 TEN days

It is impossible to judge how quickly you will become pregnant once the mirena is removed.
I would be inclined to say remove a month earlier than you wish to TTC to allow your cycles to regulate. This will give you clearer conception dates.
I have had 3 mirena removals - DC1 was conceived 6/7 weeks post removal following a normal period. DC2 was conceived after 6/7 months, so a vast difference.
I am now pregnant with DC 3 - had my coil removed 5 week ago and I havnt had a period so I actually don’t know when I conceived. The doctor did advise me to wait til I had 1 regular cycle for dating purposes - I DTD a couple times in the month and was waiting for my period but it didn’t come. Took a test and was postive so it can happen quickly.

Good luck TTC x

I had a withdrawal bleed a few days after mine came out, then a longer than average cycle (35 days) but gradually settled back down to 29 days. Took 8 cycles to get pregnant but my periods were very light for quite a long time afterwards, once I had a heavier one I got pregnant on the next cycle.

There’s no need to start trying before the coil is out, I would wait until it’s out but be prepared it may not happen straight away - there’s only around a 20% chance of conceiving per cycle so it’s quite normal for it to take a while. Good luck!

Thank you for the advice and the luck!

Can’t wait to do it all again! Just hope I’ve not left it too late now I’m 38.
