I gave birth to my lovely little son 9 months ago, but due to a range of side effects and fretting over which form of contraception to use, we have slipped up and had unprotected sex, about 12 days ago now.

Do you think a test would tell me if I was pregnant or not with any accuracy? I’m not due my period until the end of the month but it was only the one time we had unprotected sex so I was hoping if it’s negative there won’t really be a chance for it to turn positive because the sex happened long enough ago that if it was going to be positive it would have happened by now?? I hope that makes sense, unfortunately with a baby and toddler we are not prepared or financially stable enough at all for another little one, I’m really kicking myself for being in this situation :(

Oh, you poor thing, that does sound like an anxious situation! I would have thought the best thing to do would be to check the guidelines on the different products online, wouldn't it? I'm not a doctor/nurse, but I didn't want to read and ignore.

I can understand that you want to seek a bit of company while you are worrying about it!

FWIW, as far as I understand it, 12 days is a bit early and you may not have yet developed sufficiently high levels of HCG to get a positive result if you are pregnant. So a negative result today doesn't really mean you aren't pregnant (though you'd be jolly unlucky to be pg on the basis of one unprotected night!).

Can you manage to hold on at least a couple more days and focus on the general unlikelihood, statistically, that you are pg?

Thank you Dolores :)

Sorry for posting and running, I’m feeling more positive now and you’re right, I will wait til I’m due which is only a week away now. I do have some cheapie tests left over from TTC my son, so I’m hanging in there waiting til the time is right!

If you're still a week away from af, it's unlikely but possible (but very unlikely). It would likely have been about 4 days before ov (assuming a standard 14 day luteal phase). So in fertile window, but at the very beginning.

physickate yup that’s exactly what I’m hoping; I usually have a bang on 4 week cycle but it has been a bit messed around buy pregnancy/breastfeeding, then going on and then off the pill, all in 9 months. I’ll do my best be calm. We do want another child one day but we would struggle terribly if we were pregnant now and I think it would put irrepairable strain on our otherwise happy relationship and family life to go through a third pregnancy in as many years :(
