Any idea what this HPT means?

Hi there,
I did a HPT about a week ago. It showed negative when I checked it after the 2 mins then I think I checked it again in a few more mins and it still showed negative. I shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. Just tidying today and grabbed it to throw it in the bin and it showed this...
Any thoughts? Is this just what they do when you leave them for ages? The line is very thin and blue in colour. Just looking for some frank honest advice :-)
Thanks in advance x

I think it's called an evaporation line

Millie2008 · 14/08/2018 12:21

Ah ok thank you for the reply, I thought it probably was. I just read this article suggesting that if the second line had any colour it was positive (regardless of how long the test was left before it was read) and this is definitely blue rather than grey. But I'm willing to be corrected on that one! :-)

I would say it's an evap, although I've never had one so maybe worth testing again? I always wait the full 5/10 minutes as it can sometimes take longer for the positive to show if it's early. Good luck!

Thanks keepingbees - yes, probs sensible to test again, just feel a bit stupid spending money when it's almost certainly a negative!

Just get a cheapy one and if it's positive confirm it with a better one. I always got on ok with Asda own brand, about £3 for 2 (pink dye as well) or they do a cheap brand one for £1

I'd test again too, but that doesn't look like a 'normal' line. It's very thin and off centre if that makes sense ? Id guess it is an evap but you just never know, def test again just to be sure !

Thanks everyone for your replies :-) just FYI, you were all right - it was an evap line. Did a cheap pink dye one and no second line whatsoever. Just got a bit carried away I think as I read a mn article about “the myth of evap lines”! At least I know they def exist now. Thanks again x
