Can anyone help? Not sure whether I've had ovulation pains or just got rot! Can anyone describe the sensation of ovulation pains please?

Like being stabbed with a spike.

OverTheHedgeSammy · 13/08/2018 23:57

Yep, being stabbed with a spike, but its on your side, not around your stomach. And for me it was on one side at a time, obviously the side of the ovary that was releasing the egg that month.

And more painful that my periods, but for less time.

PlatypusPie · 13/08/2018 23:58

Sharp stab, very localised ie not a general ache, very transitory

YourMilkshakeIsBetterThanMine · 13/08/2018 23:59

Like someone has over-inflated your ovary until it nearly bursts. Plus the stabby spike ^^

It hurts to sit down or stand up or move in general for a day or two.

OverTheHedgeSammy · 14/08/2018 00:05

Actually my GP when i was a teenager said the ovary lining didn't thin enough, and so the egg had to 'burst' through, hence the pain. So 'bursting' is very accurate.

Thanks all... I think I've noticed that pain once then. On my left side I had stabbing/pinching feelings but that was about a year ago now. It lasted all day.

If it was only once then i don't thing that was it. You might have experienced a kidney stone passing, i get that on my left side too. The pain starts off a bit like ovulation pain, mixed with heartburn. It gets worse as the stone works its way through until it explodes through. Degree of pain depends on the size of the stone. The area will the feel bruised for a short while afterwards. The pain is slightly more spread out that ovulation pain.

BoBo90 · 14/08/2018 09:27

For me it's a dull throbbing in the ovary region which lasts for 1-2 days

Justmuddlingalong · 14/08/2018 09:29

It's like mild period pain for me. Lasts about a day and is always bang on time according to my period tracker.

Ignoramusgiganticus · 14/08/2018 09:36

Mine was very quick stabbing pain that lasted an hour or so. It allowed me to time it to conceive the son I wanted. Sex after the pain to allow the fast boy swimmers to get there first.

BillywigSting · 14/08/2018 09:39

Kind of like a stabby crappy pain, very sharp and very localised. A bit like being jabbed with a knitting needle from the inside, alternates sides each month too.

Aches a bit for a day or so afterwards

museumum · 14/08/2018 09:41

Jabby knitting needle.

Like a running stitch but more painful and more localised.

Mamabear12 · 14/08/2018 09:51

Strange, I never felt anything when I ovulate. I only guess I do when I get certain symptoms like egg white discharge so I know I'm fertile and assume ovulation happens. Although this morning I felt something so though perhaps that is ovulation? I only became aware of it as we just decided to try.

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/08/2018 09:56

Yeah sharp stabbing pain in the side I'm ovulating from which is more painful that my period pain, I have to take pain killers, lasts most of the day.

crimsonlake · 14/08/2018 10:31

Mine is like a dull ache, really quite painful at times, no stabbing I think.

AngelsAckiz · 15/08/2018 21:55

Ok wow, seems like maybe I've never experienced ovulation pain, to my knowledge anyway!
I don't think that pain I was describing was a kidney stone either as it didn't feel like how you described.

Yeah it kinda would be nice to feel it, just so I can time things better.

Same as everyone else has said - really bad stabbing pain but for me also radiates across whole stomach and painful cervix - really hurts if I sit down too hard. Not every month though but at it's worst I can barely walk and just knock myself out with codeine. Lasts about 8 hours.

Lucky me I get dreadful periods too. Thanks pcos!

eurochick · 15/08/2018 22:26

Only a minority of women feel it.

For me it is different on each side. One side it is like a bloaty wind feeling. The other an achy pain.

OverTheHedgeSammy · 16/08/2018 09:17

Yeah, mine hurts more on the left than on the right. I was bedridden with the pain on my left as a teenager. The pain has got more manageable as i've gotten older.
